I got a line on a '73 camper special with original 454 and auto trans. Does anyone know the specifics on the rearend and will it fit in my '90 K5? I can get the truck for $200.
Thanks

If it's 2WD, the shock mounts won't be right, so they'll need to be cut and re-welded. I don't think you could get a 454 in a 4WD that early.

If it's a 1-ton, the spring perches will also need cutting and welding. (If it's a 3/4 ton you'd be okay.)

The parking brake cable hooks up will be different due to the year split.

So no, it won't bolt up to your '90 without some work.

OTOH, you oughta be able to part the truck for more than $200, if you're patient.

it has odd more expensive rear wheel cylinders too if its a 73. Most parts stores have the 74 and on.

But it is a 14b? Is that a FF? It's 2wd so i know that I would have to change out the front for 8 lugs. I kinda thought if it was the rear I could use then i would put on disc breaks, so the wheel cylinders are not an issue. What would this have come with, a 4.10 or ?
And thanks

Wheel cylinders are <$10 a pop, whatever.

Should be a 14BFF, yes. Semi-float didn't happen until the 80's.

COULD be an Eaton, but IIRC those stopped in '72. Easy enough to count bolts =))

thanks dude...
I haven't seen the truck in over a year but the lady who owns it asked me the other day if I wanted it and I haven't been out yet to count the bolts. I figured I would buy it for 2oo, take the 14bff, keep the 454 and trans and scrap the rest. Last time i looked at it, it had some rocker damage and the bed was in bad shape. the guy i bought my k5 had just gotten the rear springs re-arched. Should I get a shackle flip from ORD or DYI4X for the rear and then a 4" spring kit for the front. How mush does it cost to switch the 10bolt to 8 lug and the 14bff to disc?
Thanks,

Thanks,

your looking at maybe 200 or so for the rear discs. kert at diy4x has some brackets that use the caddy discs so if you can find some used ones you should be good to go from there
