Know any good local places?

There's one down by my parent's that knows transmissions (and basically cars) inside and out, front to back and can build you the toughest 700R4 available for less than the big names. From this forum and others I've gotten the idea that there is usually somebody like that in most decent sized places.

Voted Bowtie because I've heard nothing but great stuff about them, but I order parts from monster when I rebuilt mine...

I agree. I got mine rebuilt at a local place, and am totally satisfied. Plus if there were ever a warranty issue, it would be a lot easier to drive down the street to take care of it.

Talk to Melvin at the Trans Shop in El Monte, CA (just outside of LA.). I don't know a lot about trannys and Melvin spent a good 25 minutes with me on the phone answering questions knowing I was not bringing my junk to him in the near future. Seemed very helpful.

If anyone is seriously considering buying from Mad Dog and going through the trouble of shipping a tranny from Florida, don't even bother. Talk to CRT Transmissions or Transmission Physicians. They're both local to me (Florida) and about 30 minutes from Mad Dog. I spend a fair amount of time at the track with my racing buddies and hardly anyone runs Mad Dog's crap. The post at thirdgen linked above says it all. Transmission Physicians built a 4L60e that's consistently running 9's in a firebird that will stand on its rear bumper.
