well i had some major issues with my truck this week. As i was pulling into autozone to get some oil and a filter, my truck died and black smoke started bellowing out the hood. i was able to roll it into a parking spot and pop the hood only to see my engine on fire. the zone handed me an exstinguisher, i put out the fire. the cause....... battery fell out of the tray and the positive terminal landed on the oil cooler line and burned through it, thus igniting all the oil that had been pumped out before the truck suffocated to a halt. I was able to pinch off the oil cooler lines and get the truck running to drive to a friends house close by.
well i let the truck sit for the night and let myself vent. I drove the truck one more time, parked it at my friends house again. Then last night i went to start it, the starter had broken the mounting ear off the block and the dang thing was stuck engaged and whinning like crazy @ 10 at night. Because of the fire the day before, i was unable to undo the battery terminal because it had melted down and i couldn't get a wrench on it. So i pulled my reciever hitch off and began beating the crap out of my 128mt starter until it stopped. And yes, this is all cause to me putting the rear brace on the bottom of the "to-do-list".

So now i'm faced with some decisions, and some questions to you guys. I love the 6.2, but with me being on disability for the next 5 months, money is tight.
any ball park figures on getting the ear fixed? engine removal?
anything jurastic you'de have to do to slam in a gasser? motor mounts? fuel tank? electrical work? crossmember?

PS. Bolt your batteries down, and put your rear starter brace on today/tonight. It'll save you some trouble somewhere down the road.

The battery thing is something I learned a long time ago, pretty much the same way except I didn't have a fire.
The starte issue, I have a block that had the same problem, I parted it out because the cost to fix it was going to be more than I would and did pay for another complete running engine.
As for putting a gasser, I am not going to listen to this kind of talk.
You should be able to find a 6.2 for $300 to put in.
I have one but I have a project for it, replacing my 350 in the truck.:D

yeah, i don't want to lose the 6.2 either. So tomarrow i'm going into DMV and getting my one ton registered, then hitting pick and pull to see what they have. If not, i'll be looking on ebay for a military 6.2

There are too many that buy these M1008's for the axles and the engines are just in their way, you should be able to get one cheap.

hmmm, i happen to have two, but wont be able to yank them for a few weeks. and battery hold downs from the m1008's... i'm in no hurry so your 5 weeks isnt a prob... if you're interested.

How are the engines, I know they are in the 2 trucks you just got, so they should be low miles but sometimes they have a problem.
Ar ethey good runners?
I would take one and he could take the other.
If so maybe if you can get them out, I can pick them up and bring them up here, I will be buying a trailer in Commerce CA and bring it up here I could put them in it.
Do you think you can do that next week???:D

savage, let me know if you need a hand. I am in burney but travel to redding often. I also travel to sac and the bay area once or month or so, so i can help get things if needed. I am just starting my house build, so super busy, but know what it is like to need a hand. lmk.

one runs great. the other is missing the glow plug realay's and card, but had paperwork stating it was a running and "usable" vehicle when put out to pasture. i wont be able to get to tearing them down for a few weeks at least.... ( 3 kids on my days off and the trucks arent here at my house). i will probably start with removing the hoods and fenders this weekend if i get a chance and weather permits..

Well then we'll keep in touch, I will get loads to L.A. from time to time coming back from NY and sometimes I come back to sac empty or partial load, maybe we can work something out.
How much for each, I would take the one missing things, I have a couple of parts engines.
