What about this idea for BB06 (your input)

Another thing on having a registration, before someone says "Just have a cut off date" and stick to it. In theory that sounds great but the fact is people would think they are going until the last minute then have to cancel, I always have people who want to register as I am walking up to the mike for the raffle etc.. so it will never be fool proof.
If we plan for 50 rigs and 110 people I would bet we would be very close.

A registration for 150 rigs, hell yeah, but for 40 or so rigs I think it's more work than it needs to be.

I like your ideas Steve. I know I've only been to the last Bash, but I'm an opinionated SOB.

If it's not catered, I would say forget about trying to organize food at all. Just leave it up to the individuals.

I really like the idea of selling dash plaques and t-shirts at the M&G. I would also recommend that you bring some CK5 merchandise to sell too, at least some stickers.

I think as far as registration, I would "meet in the middle" between yours and Micheal's thoughts about registration. Call it a sign-up sheet for the trail runs. List the trail, vehicle requirements, difficulty, trail leader, and meeting place at the top of the sheet and have it there for people to sign-up on at the M&G. It might be nice if this could be set up on the website before hand also.

From the perspective of a person that was new to this last year, my biggest confusion was meeting for the trail runs. I'm glad I "knew" Micheal and Dave from PMs and what-not on CK5 before the event. Otherwise I wouldn't have had a clue where to go and who to go with on the trail runs.

I think if you post on the website that the official motel is XXX and the official campground is XXX, that is where people will stay. Seems like quite a few people post wanting to know where everyone is staying or camping. Most of us want to stay where everyone else is.

I know a lot of people like the Hell's Revenge on Friday, but the BFE thing sounds like a cool idea for Friday. Wheel during the day Friday at BFE, and then have the M&G there afterwards. It sounds like a place where all rigs could have some fun and guys like me could watch the really built rigs gettin' nasty. Just my thought, but like mentioned maybe that wouldn't work well.

Some historic information from the last few:

Like Steve said, the registration is a huge hassle, I personally don't have issues with paying money, but then I'm not the only one attending this.

Remember, there if you pay money for a registration, people will expect something in return for it period, good bad or indifferent. Money=Expect, unless you are donating to the Red Cross of something. If you can't give something for the money, someone is going too be chapped.

Before comments arise, remember the goal here, to have fun. What's the diffrence if a fee is paid or not??? The decision to not have a fee, in my mind is not a bad one, there will be no expectation on anyone’s part, which in turns cuts out the bitching. This is a reality. This way if you attend you know not to expect anything. This also means that no one has to arrange and organize anything, this means we all get to hang out and have fun and drink some cold beer. What a concept??

I have been to these now for quite some time, I have always been disappointed at how little time is spent by the promoters of the event hanging out with the crews, this means, They are always so busy doing things for others they never get to hang out and just have fun. The time that it takes to put this on is nothing than anyone can imagine.

I'm sure right now, Steve is thinking, hell no tickets, no food, no raffle solicitations, I just get to go and have a good time no pressure, and I get to drink some cold ones and finally hang out with __________ insert the name of the people you did not get enough time with last year, because you were fending off pissed off and hungry people because the food was MIA????

Keep it stress free, and everyone can just show up and wheel.... What a concept, Moab/Wheeling/No Stress for the promoters..

It will not make a differance at all, we have been in the mags before and it never changes attendance the next year.

I have actualy gone to "car shows" just to look at the hot rods not because I wanted a meal or take part in a raffle etc.. Other than wheeling I thought this was a big reason to get together.:D
Just wanted to mention that it was reading about CK5 in a magazine that introduced me to the site.

And that reminded me that for food at our car show we have food vendors that come in and sell food, kind of like hotdog carts, but usually more elaborate setups. I don't think that would work for our event though.

Don't get me wrong, I love to see CK5 in the mags and it does help bring in new Members, it's just that I haven't seen an increase in BB attendance. Who knows, there is a first time for everything, maybe we will be surprised.

Brandon & Steve,

I think you guys are onto the whole have the bbq hand out time at Slickrock or Motel 6, this in my mind is a great idea. No driving after the partying.....

Keep talking about this, I'm sure we could get Slickrock to work something out on this. This is an excellent suggestion.

More thoughts on this!!!!!

Drinking and no driving, or at the most less than a 1/4 of a mile of driving.

GOOD THOUGHT!

Rob

I am not singing in front of everyone Rob :deal:

But I do plan on being in Moab sometime this year , no matter what the circumstances :thumb:

OK guys, I didn't even know this post was going on until yesterday so now it's my turn to kick something in.
My thoughts are like this:
There are many good ideas in here and I have been to every BB so far.
I wouldn't miss them unless I was in the hospital or my wife chained me to the bed (this could be a good thing).
I started out helping get sponsors for the event and had good success but it is a lot of work. Steve and the guys from ORD have done so much work to make this event the best that I can't thank them enough.
I can totally understand that they need to have fun too and doing all the ground work is a bit*h, let alone at the BBQ.
We all need to have fun and the food is not everything but it's a treat.
I would easily spend the money to have it waiting for me when I got to the BBQ but not at the expense of others in our group.
I would still like to see the food there after a long or short day of wheeling.
The only way I see this happening without making our guys do it is to contact the caterer <sp> that hosted the last event and see if they would be willing to show up at this years event to SELL plates of food to us.
This way they can make money for sure and none of us have to cook.
Maybe if the caterers are willing to come, some of us that will be there for sure can sign-up/prepay for meals from them?
next,
Not paying to come.. i.e. no t-shirts and tickets for Steve to deal with is not a bad thing (pre sales would be good for the shirts). I would like to see more guys make it and if that's what it takes then so be it. I would still like to see a sign-up sheet with trails depending on your rigs capabilities with the final decision being made by the mod's here and boss before we even get there. I have lead the Sheetmetal guys for years but would also like to ride with the "BIG BOYS" too. I don't mind helping but it kinda costs me too. Let's split it up some.
The idea is FUN and I have no problem leading the easier trail for a day or two but not if I'm going to miss out on the bigger runs.
......
I also think that we should maybe plan a M&G after the BBQ at the camp ground so we can continue the party. I HATE that everyone splits after the BBQ so we don't get a chance to meet everyone. Sometimes I think that everyone is only there for the raffle, not the M&G. I don't want to drive far after a good night of drinking but I do like to drink & BS with you guys.
......
As for the raffle, I'd like to see it keep going if there is some easy way. I'd buy tickets their just for the fun of it and I think it's good for the sponsors to get their products out and known. I know it's a hassle but I also think it helps bring people to the event. I've won some kick butt prizes that have made my day. Anything within reason here is a good thing.
......
I know it's tough to get guys from all over the country to come to the event but I have seen what it does to them. They really become part of the brotherhood and that is a good thing. I think we need a way to bring more of the guys out to this event if there is a way. Any ideas out there would be good. I only wish I had more time to help so I could make it rock better then any other year but I'm slammed. Any and all help or ideas would be great.
One thing I would really like to see is a storm on main street where all of us doing a cruse together through town. This could be after the park on the way to the camp ground if early enough or when ever. I'd like the town to know we are there and that we have the best F'in trucks out there!:waytogo:
Let's make it fun for all any way we can.
I'll keep thinking about it and will try to come up with something.
Remember, we are the best dam web site with the best dam trucks out there and we should make this an event that all our members don't want to miss. Better then EJS!

I will take it upon myself to talk to the slickrock and see about a area for a Meet N Greet on Friday night.
I will also be calling the Motel 6 chain to try to get a discount for the rooms.
Last year we ended up at the Moab Valley Inn because Dirk was able to set up a deal. That was great money wise but I for One felt like I lost the feel of the event because I didn't make it to the camp ground to hang out. That was My fault but to cure that I will be staying at the Motel 6 or other close to the Slickrock Campground.
If I remember right the Slickrock has the largest/best access for the larger trailers and trucks in and around Moab.

So are we willing to try Meet N Greet spot for Friday night.
Food issue IMO is unresolved.
Try to really organize trails and meet in different places around the town instead of all at the Grocery Store.
Trail leaders that are Harda$$ about moving and vehicle ability prior to entering a trail.
There's more but I got to go to Work now.

Let's check into having the Meet and Greet at slickrock and see what they say and go from there.

I realy don't think we should mess with a fee for food, we need either a simple bring your own and maybe a little extra, or we could also do a pot luck where people loosly sign up to bring a certain food so we have everything covered.

The thing about paying for food is then you have to keep records of who paid, who didn't, do you allow kids under/over a certain age etc., how do you police that in a nice way etc., do you really want to turn away someone that just found CK5 a few days eariler and couldn't register in time? What about the people that always walk up and say "I forgot my ticket at home" or their "proof of purchase", all that would have to be tracked and recorded and then verified = hassle.
I know last year we had 37 rigs registered, we all know there were more than 37 people at the meet and greet.

Yes, yes and yes on this one, I wanted to do this the first year we did BB but not many wanted to do that at that time, I think we are ready for that now. :D

Trail leaders that are Harda$$ about moving and vehicle ability prior to entering a trail.
A big part of this is also to keep group sizes smaller and mangable.

There's more but I got to go to Work now.
About time you did something. :D

Also, I am still going to do the raffle and also have t-shirts to sell this year just in case any one missed this in an earlier post.

Speaking of people from farther places coming. Myself and Leper are trying our best to make it. We are on the east side of Texas, and then to make it to Utah is a good trip. With the way gas prices are these days im sure its making it hard on everyone to make it. For any of us Dallas crew to make it we would have to rent a large trailer and tow rig, haul up there, and then haul back. No way i would drive my rig there, it wouldnt make it.

If food can be cattered, Awesome, but if not, a potluck or fend for yourself is best for everyone. Less stress on Steve and everyone that helps set things up.

Raffle, sell tickets onsite. Possibly presale shirts and whatnot, but mainly sold onsite.

We got to keep our heads set on having fun!! Thats what wheelin is about. A gathering like this is to meet others, have a great time, and flog the rigs. Its not all about the fancy stuff. That just leaves the people that plan it all worrying about things when they should be joined in on the fun.

Nice one Robzilla:D
SlickRock:
sitemap.gif

We NorCal guys have already began reserving space at SlickRock. I talked to the lady there and she is posting us up all in the same spot. We are over on the right in 87, 86 and up, thease are RV spots too:D . You can see in this pic they have group sites on the bottom left?

I'm with Robzilla...just want EVERYONE to have fun relaxing time..No one should be working or stressing.
I vote for giving SteveO & his peps the "day Off".... we can have PLEANTY of good times without any structure what so ever...

Oh we will have structure, just very loose.

I think it is a good idea focusing the "structure" on the trail runs. That's what we are there to do with our fellow CK5ers. :thumb:

Sorry, I guess you didn't get this idea.
No cooking by any of us, no one has to buy food, late shows can get food if they want, no tickets. :what:
Local company makes money, we have good food waiting= no hassle

Thanks Brandon, your the man! :waytogo:
I did it for a few years but you will find the manager seems to change every year at Motel 6. Just tell them were a chruch group. (CK5 =?) J/K
If time allows, I will help out ANY way possible to make it easier.

Last year the catering was a little over $800.00 and they had a 50 plate min and they were very late, in fact if Dirk hadn't called them (they thought it was the following weekend) they wouldn't have even showed up.
Just swing by Wendy's that way you don't have to cook, plus their Frosty's are very good. :haha:
But seriously, this way you wouldn't have to worry about getting back from a trail at a certain time in order to catch the food.

Sounds good to me :D

Hey Pauly...we will squeeze ya in :D
I think we are up to about 4-5 in our carravan now :D
Can't wait to wheel that place again...In Marv's words " I was just gettin my groove on and it was time to go home, Sunday night 2002 w/ corn in hand ":haha:
er...something like that anyway...Good Times!

Ok back on topic... Let's WHEEL!
Er er er er er (swamper noise on slick rock):doah:
