looks like a lot of good ideas and oponuons out there. i cerntanly dont mind getting the park and such set up, its not a real big deal. the catering thing was ok it was only the third time moab brewery had done such a thing so glithces were expeted. i think what ever is decided on will be fine the bash is a lot of fun a good bunch of people. i have more fun with it any more than with easter. i will do anything i can to help from here dont be afraid to ask. look foward to seing you all again this year plus some hopfuly. happy wheeling

I have exponentially more fun on a trail with 4-6 rigs as opposed to more than that.

My main reason to go to Moab is to wheel in a place like no other.
I really enjoy hanging around a campfire, BSing with people I rarely get to talk to in person.
I like a fast paced run.
Will someone please show me the right way to drive Dump Bump without breaking something

I guess somehow i have been lucky over the years (and the luck has nothing to do with last years raffle..)...i have been fortunate enough to have been there right as ck5 was born....and even luckier enough to have attended every ck5 bash to include the very first in idaho springs....ya know when steve somehow lost half the group...frisbee's cucv came off the trailer to do its very first trail run...and the potent rodent somehow managed to get matching dents (more like gouges) on the both quarters....
But the most memorable event of all was the Why To K5 event...most of us were wiped out saturday morning as we all looked like a bunch of beer toating tricker treaters heading from one truck to the next and pausing..BS'ng...on into the wee hours of the morning. I know some come from afar and prefer to wheel to the max...but some of us are into the K5 thing more than just hitting the dirt...there are K5's with one axle also...and a few with campers....and some that served our country proud...these facts coupled with the Sheetmetal gang really do hit a home run....the sheetmetal gang has been lead by others that are more experienced...and most likely have a vehicle that is overkill for that trail...but i like to think of dave and michael (whom by the way i consider near and dear friends) as CK5 ambassadors....spreading the gospel and leanding a hand...be it at the end of a winch cable....wrench in hand...or guiding the group thru the trail....
I have not forgotten why micheal got his nick name as lowrider from his first year....lol. Good memories! I enjoy the fact that the sheetmetal gang takes a little longer to meander their way thru a trail as it gives the new people and up and close view of the brotherhood....its a great experience for all.
The meet and greet must live on...but earlier..maybe...a central meeting place between the 6 and slickrock....perfect solution! Nail on the head and all that shiz.
BYOB - BYOF....good idea....if we can secure the central location to meet so all can stagger...crawl...back to their chosen accomidations...instant hit. We can then tail gate....dave has allways dropped the deck on the trooper and allowed us to have toons on the trail for lunch....so circle the K5's (no pun intended)....and do her to her...and then steve will finally be able to let his hair down...oh wait...he shaved his head didn't he?....and just hang out like the rest of us....for a change.
Raffle...good deal for all involved...but not totally necessary...but i did like the idea of vendors being included on the t-shirts. Love dash plaques....reminds me of the days of old when i used to own a mini in socal and we went to tons of shows....and events like Reso's....definately a keeper.
Still like the trail requirements...allthough it seems we usually end up with 2 groups...sheetmetal and those who wish to run pritchett....
So we need to organize the two groups....depending on size and amount the sheetmetal guys could do 2 trails in one day with 2 groups and flop them the next day so all get to experience the same trails and maybe mix it by one day and group is moderate...the other is easy.?? Just speaking out loud.
Dividing vehicles by equiptment is a good idea. Its bad enough you break your junk because your k5 isn't quite where it needs to be so you substitute equipt with throttle until the dreaded snap or pop arrives on scene...then mr ugly shows his head as it is discovered you have no spare parts save a spark plug or two....this is another item that needs to be addressed. years back if it wasn't for marv and the gang i might never have regained my loaned trail spare hub....
So i think there is something to be said about rules...

All good ideas! I really don't care about the BBQ thing, I just wanted to go to meet everyone. I met quite a few people, but felt like I didn't get enough hang out time partly due to staying in a hotel and not haviing a social gathering place.
This year I will definitley be camping at slick rock which I think will make it easier to get to know others better. I am bringing some friends from my club who are pretty stoked about the event even though they don't have K5's.
I don't think the pot luck thing would work out, due to people having to travel long distances and trying to preserve food while they are traveling. I would rather just eat a sandwich and bring a 30 pack of Coors light, but that's just me. I know Brandonn is in to the fine beers such as Natty light
As far as NO registration, I am cool with that. My wife and I consider BB as our getaway and we leave the kids with the grandparents. We plan to spend some money on food, gas, lodging and the like. Last year was our first year and we had a great time and really enjoyed talking with Brandonn, Michael, Claudia, Stephen, Ed, Pauly, Dave, Scott, Max, etc. (Wish I could of hung out with the AZ guys some more....)
That being said after reading through this thread I have really gotten excited about this years event since it is literally right around the corner.
One thing I think needs to be addressed and I don't know who else has had this problem??
My rig is NOT street legal and must be trailered to the trail head. Is there a way to plan or give a heads up to us who definetly cannot drive on the roads without fear of havy fines or imprisonment???
Last year I flat towed my junk, but this year I will have a trailer and really don't want to take any chances of being fined and such.....

I wish I could of hung with you some more too . Seems like every night it was so hard to leave camp for town since I was half crocked within minutes of leaving the shower at the end of a long day . All of us in a central location will just plain rock

I don't know about other states , but here in AZ you can buy a general use permit for "testing" and "repair" purposes , if you want to drive it it temporarily . Don't know how it would fly legally , but its better than expired tags .

I have driven the buggy on the street to and from the trails with good luck. I don't do anything but go to the gas starion and trail head.
I am also getting to know the back raods of Moab well by now.

Your rig is good looking though, mine is a ferocious disfiguremant and sticks out like a sore thumb....lol. Aw what the hell I guess I will just chance it..........
My truck sticks out and I drove it last year with no tail lights or brake lights... Passed one cop and he didn't do anything but it scared the poo out of me. I plan on driving it this year but it will have tail lights on it this time.

Ok I have more time to reply now so I will.
Easter is a real bad time in Moab to do anything but trailer any hardcore rig. I see trucks that have everything looking good get pulled over for things like mudflaps or cracked windsheilds. I think the goal for the cops is to make surre that they show a large force and look as though they are taking no crap.
During Blazer bash I have seen a cop while driving the buggy, Like I said I try to keep it calm and just go from hotel to trail and back. I see very few problems with this. That being said for a few of the trails I will tow, Area BFE is one place that I load up and tow to.
When I am just transporting locally I usually just use a strap on the front axle and set the line locks on the buggy and go. It's just a few miles at slower speeds so I see it as no big deal. Highway and long distance stuff is where I tie down both ends well.
I say get your brakes light working and drive it.
Just get a pressure switch from a race car type place and wire up your lights.
