What are guys running for lock boxes in your open K5s? *Update* Here's what I did.

Does anyone know where I can get a tough metal box with a hinged lid that locks with a padlock? Would need it to be roughly 2' square in size. My Blazer used to have an inside tire mount bracket behind the back seat but it's been removed but the bolts are still there. I would like to put the locking box there so I can put valuables in it when I'm parked. I would just drill 4 holes in the bottom of the box and bolt it to the floor.

I know I know, it would be easy to weld one up but I have no access or connections to a welder or welding materials. I was looking for something I could buy that would fit the bill.

Anyone have any ideas or may be running something like this? I'll post a picture of my Blazer's cargo area when I get home from work.

Jockey Boxes meant for medium duty trucks is a good idea. Look at construction site tool boxes. Knaap makes some nice $$$ ones.

Cool. Now I have alot more ideas than I had when I started this thread. That's the way it usually works around here.:) Thanks for the info.:waytogo:

:D :haha:

CDA, what the heck is that thing? Some kind of case for a rocket launcher? (guessing by the writing: front towards the enemy) :haha:

I was thinking that was a claymore. first thing I thought of was an ammo box too since you can get them in all differnet sizes and usually pretty cheap but you might what to check the weather stripping and make sure its still good

Well I live in a pretty good neighborhood so I really won't have much of a need for Claymore mines unless I ever have to drive to Youngstown.:D

I have two Craftsman lock boxes in my 69, one on each side, one is a rollout little toolbox, the other just a simple well for sticking thing's.

Here's what I did...

I just broke down and bought a diamond-plate aluminum tool box. It has 7 cubic feet of storage space. It was made for a mini truck but fit nicely in the back. The reason I mounted it off-center is because I mounted it to the floor using the old bolts for the spare tire holder thingy (which was not there when I bought the truck anyway). There were 4 bolts and they were on the left side of the floor back there and I wouldn't have been able to use them had I mounted the box dead-center.

I knew I would find a good use for those old fender badges I found on eBay! :D

Dontoe after seeing how good yours looked I pretty much knew that's the direction I was going to go. :waytogo:

I did one of these. I also sealed the center console so it is water tight. But I mostly use that for pop and other adult beverages.

Craig, now that your truck isn't stock anymore when are you gonna start wheeling it? That storage box looks big enough to hold straps, chains, spare parts, and tools. Just find a place to mount a hi-lift and we will see you at the summer crawl. :D
