What Are "Peanut Port Heads" ?

I have had a 454 with the 1985 and newer small "peanut port" oval heads, and a 454 with the larger pre-1985 and older large oval port heads. I can tell you that the larger oval port heads where able to cruise at 85-MPH down the Interstate with out even trying, but the smaller "peanut port" oval port heads had to have the throttle pushed down a lot more, in order to cruise at the same 85-MPH.

The gen vi L29 heads are the best post muscle car era iron production head there is.

I’m building a Gen 6 right now with mild porting, machined for studs and roller rockers, comp springs and stainless valves.

Straub Technologies spec’d me a cam that he swears will make 500/550 with those head mods.

Peanut ports are junky stock, but are good with upgrades on a low rpm torque focused engine
