86 K5 Blazer. What would be some symptoms of the starter going out. Sometimes when I start it it will rev the engine but not actually start. Then tonight I went to start it and it was almost like the battery was dead but then I turned it off and tried again and it started right up. Starter?

Does it click or just nothing?

Most of the time it isnt the starter going out, rather the solenoid. They sell rebuild kits for them, but the rediculous thing is that a rebuild kit is about the same price as a brand new starter with solenoid.

All a starter does is spin the engine. If it spins fast and does not start, then the starter is doing its job.

The slow, then fast cranking, could be a starter, but like zombie said, check all cables and connections first.
When you turn the key, the solenoid fires which jars the cables attached to it, and can cause a connection to make better or worse.

But, the contacts in the solenoid can have bad spots too.

Great thanks. I was thinking I may need to look at th battery cables. Ill start there.
