A few weeks ago I installed a new fuel pump on the suburban. Then a few nights ago it went out.

The fuel pump was from O Reilly's.

Are there any top of the line fuel pumps out there for a 1990 Suburban V1500 that is NON OE.?

Especcially for a bargain price(amazon , eBay etc)?

A friend who runs a shop uses Spectra fuel pumps often and hasn't had many failures--they also cost up to 100 bucks less than OEM ones depending on the application..

I'd shop around, sometimes OEM ones are available for less than an aftermarket one,my friend prefers to stay with OEM if the customer wants to pay for it--he has been surprised more than once to find a dealer would sell him an OEM pump for less than Autozone or the other usual sources...

AC Delco or Walbro.... some people have been bashing Walbro's, but I've had perfect service from mine for 3 yr's now...

The problem with ACDELCO is they say AC on the box, but come from a number of suppliers, ie Mexico, china and only they know who else. It is hard to find anything made in USA.

eh, bunk... of course it's not made in the USA.. nothing has in friggin 25 yr's.... I use ton's of AC Delco stuff in the boats, and have yet to see a single quality issue since being made in Mexico... the intraweb just likes to yack without knowing....

Have you used any of the Chinese Delco stuff yet? Last few Delco parts I've purchased have been made in China.

Obviously just like Mexico, if quality is controlled properly the parts will be fine, the Chinese Delco stuff is fairly new though, not much feedback I've heard one way or the other on that stuff.

the variety of AC products we run in the boats is somewhat limited, so not a ton of the China stuff yet, but some... no failures yet...

we've been putting TON's of the Mexico stuff in for yr's without a single issue... we run lot's of Mexico caps, plugs, etc... I probably install 150+ plug sets a yr, never had a single one with an issue... you add that up over 7, 8 yr's, and that's a f*ckton of plugs...

and just a statement in general...... everyone likes to go off all blustery about "not made in America, blah, blah..." not only are you all 25+ yr's late to the party, but you're actually blaming the wrong people anyway! :haha:

it isn't that everything that comes out of china is junk, IT'S THE FACT THE GREEDY AMERICAN COMPANIES SPEC IT THAT WAY! the Chinese can make outstanding products, when ASKED to... but the Walmarty, must own every cheap POS item, consumerism mentality of this country has demanded that products be made with a piece of plastic, some goop and the soul of a 9 yr old Korean girl...

as to why it's all made there, you can thank your gubment for that....

I have been running a Bosch in mine about 5 years now,no issues at all,if I remember right it was about 65 dollars at a carquest

A lot of TBI tuners like to go with the AC/Delco EP381 fuel pump for low performance engines. This is the fuel pump that came in Corvetts, SS Camaros and Trans Ams. This in-tank pump pushes a little more PSI than your original (I believe) EP241 can. If you shop around on the internet you can get an EP381 for a decent price, and I have not seen too many problems with the AC/Delco pumps, just occassionaly.

EP241 would be a TPI pump at 43.5PSI, the EP381 would the 60 or 80PSI unit, can't recall which. Both of which are much more than the TBI unit.

For a TBI setup, I'd think the TPI pump would be a good compromise. if the dimensions are the same, I would *suspect* the lesser output pump would theoretically last longer. Ther TPI pump also has a slightly larger outlet than the TBI/381. Hose will fit, just takes a bit of effort.

Tbi pumps are cheap, what do you have against the oem pump?
I have been using delphi pumps (napa claims to be oem manufacturer??) with zero problems. And as far as a bargain, pump is around 50 bucks.

I'm not so concerned with OEM parts coming from here, there, or anywhere. But I have heard several different stories (from different sectors) of firms getting caught selling counterfeit parts. Claiming to be AC Delco (or whoever) without actually going through AC Delco's quality control system. It's much harder to track down the true source of an imported part (vs. one with a short supply chain).

And a bunch of the typical parts store parts are rebuilt old parts, which may or may not have been rebuilt to OEM specs. That sounds like a pure crapshoot to me, and my experience with them seems to fit this. Somehow it took 6 or 7 tries to FINALLY get a good starter motor for Big Blue. The Suburban starter motor worked on the first try. :dunno:

Update. It was not the fuel pump, it was the sending unit.

Had to get a new one, plus it was reason why the fuel gas is not operating being stuck past "full"

no doubt, look at all the counterfeit Walbro's getting peddled.. doesn't mean the actual Walbro's are any worse, just that good that people will counterfeit em..

you have to look at, know, the different aftermarket manny's for the parts your interested in....... we REFUSE to put an Arco starter in the boats..... I don't care if they cost 1/2 what a Merc one does.. 50 to 75% of them fail within a yr.... we got sick of it.. I don't have the time for those kinda comebacks, and return work, even if that's what the customer wants/bought.. do it right, or don't do it at all.. I've heard MANY horror stories about the Airtex fuel pumps, etc, etc...
