I think I ran my 241 dry. It's behind a 4L80E in my 91. It seems like the trans was slipping but when I check the fluid in the trans it was full. The suburban just rev'ed up but would not go. Shut it down and check the fluid in the trans. When I restarted the truck it drove just fine. Long story short I finally opened the Tcase and check the fluid, it was dry.

I filled it up and really haven't had any issues since then. But it nags on me why the truck would not go. Can this happen from an empty 241? I thought they were chain driven.

Where does the chain have slip?
That doesn't make sense to me. Feel like I'm missin something.

The chain only has anything to do with the front output, you could leave it out and the 2WD parts would work the same. There is no way that the 241 caused what you're describing, unless it was in neutral.

Well when the shift forks wear, sometimes the mode can slip to Neutral after hard braking. If the shift linkage is adjusted wrong they wear faster, but they will all do it eventually. Sometimes just shifting all the way to 4LO and back to 2HI will bring it back into gear.

Yeah, I've got a leak in some where so as soon as I isolate that I might end up pulling it and resealing the case. I guess I'll have a look around while I'm at it.

Ran my np208 dry, which has very similar internals, and it caused the front driveshaft to turn all the time.

Hmm..I wonder if that's why my NP-208 refuses to not send power to the front shaft in 2wd ?..the front shaft always spins,so I have to leave the hubs unlocked and pray they never engauge themselves while I'm driving it..
I can plow in 2wd with the hubs locked just the same as it will in 4hi..
