On the lower rear corner area of the back of my 01 sierra extended cab, i have 2 4"x6" or so black plastic vents that go into the cabin area..... what are they for and what would happen if i remove them...?

Those should be a vent for when the doors are shut, you don't blow out the glass. Has something to do with pressure in the cab. Also for the heat and ac. It helps with the flow of the vents.
I thought about the doors thing..... but I seems unneeded. all I know is it sounds like theres always a window open... constant road and wind noise from them vents going down the road
so annoying.... I'm dynamatting the whole floor, doors, and back wall. it seems counter productive to leave them open. I may try and find the right airfilter foam and cover them to muffle it

Have you already covered them up and driven to see if they make that much difference? Not saying they don't, just something good to check on. They probably also help when the vehicle is sitting to make sure you don't get a ton of condensation inside. Unfortunately, need airflow to prevent that.

It is... but I had the wife check her rear window area, and i can tell my side is ok... with the back seat out I can see the vents, and by looking at the passenger one while moving it draws your eyes right to it when you center on the sound. I originally thought door or window seals... but before i pulled the seat even, the sound kept pulling my attention to the lower corner.
I'm going to stuff a couple sweatshirts in front of the vents when i leave in the morning and see how it sounds on the way home from work. maybe the wife couldnt tell well enough on her side...

My 05 crew cab has those same vents and they don't make any noise at all.
Something I have noticed about my 82 cab is that there are no vents that I can find. The doors shut nice and easy when a window is open but actually quite tough to fully shut when the windows are closed

I think on some years they put louvers on the back side of the doors where they face the strikers,and along the bottom under the panel, that'll let some air pressure escape when the door is slammed shut..
Vents are at the bottom of the doors, towards the rear. Covered up with the "carpet" upholstery below the plastic door panel if you have the higher end interior.

Ok yup those are there. Still get a lot of cabin pressure for some reason though
Mine probably wouldnt be noticeable but i can actually SEE them from the drivers seat. theres normally a plastic panel that goes accross the back of the cab under the window that would muffle most of that sound.. mine doesnt have that panel. PO took it out to mount an amplifier wall.
I can look right through the little flaps and see daylight while driving...
I removed a couple of small (12"x18") pieces of the carpet padding from under the seat area and pushed them in the corner trim covering them.. the way i bowed them they arent really touching/pressing against the vents at all.. Made a huge difference
