My motor is 1984 K5 , 305cid w/ 142k on odo. Basically stock other than Holley carb, mallery dizzy and full length headers with dual exhaust.

Right now im at 7* advanced, I was at 4* but was chasing some issues. Stock is 4*. I havent really driven it much since the timing change. Will 7* hurt anything?

between 4 and 8 seems to work best. muchmore than that and they ping, or dont start well. i think my 350 is at 6

I set mine to12* With the advance plugged, then after adjusting hooked it back up.
On my 305, but i think my engines a little tired lol, needed more of a kick i think lol.

Wait, timing is just one number? Oh, you must mean initial timing. Mine looks like this:

My 305 w/ RV cam, 650CFM Edelbrock Thunder series carb, hooker headers, runs best at 12*before TDC at idle, and 30* or so @ higher RPM.
I don't have a Tachometer so I can't be more specific about the higher RPM #'s.
(This is at sea level)

total timing is what's really important imo.. most sb's like 28 to 35 when all in, depending on cam, etc... obviously the lopier the mill, the more she wants...
