Hey guys I am about to walk out the door for work, just found a 94 silverado, diesel. Guy is parting it out, is that the year that had the auto trans that is desirable? I would search around a bit, but I gotta head out right now. Lemme know, thanks.

If you're looking for a stand-alone 4L80E that one is a year too new. 94 was the first year for the computer controlled injection stuff, you need to look for a 91, 92, or 93.

It just means it won't have the stand alone controller. Otherwise, the trans is the same.

The desirable 4L80E's are the 98-up (pretty sure 98 is the first year) jobbies with the cooler return line located further toward the rear of the trans (older ones have the return next to the discharge). The older ones can have issues with not getting enough lube oil flow to the planetaries. The newer ones feed the return (which is the lube supply) straight into the center support, which gives much improved oiling. There are mods you can do to the older ones to help out the oiling though, so if you can get the trans for cheap I would take it anyway.
