As I understand it, even the "full synthetics" are not necessarily all synthetic. I would be surprised if companies like Royal Purple and Amsoil cut that corner, but others do. It's about as bad as trying to find a "good" battery anymore.

FWIW, Mobil 1 used to be considered the best (at least among the "bulk" manufacturers), but as I recall, their formulation changed a few years back, and it was questioned as to whether it was as dominant anymore.

Mobil one syn 10W-30. And, as above i usually get it at the mart. i haven't been there in a while but it was like $22.95 for 5 quarts. You can't beat that.
Also usually use a mobil 1 filter.
My engine, the LB4, 4.3 v-6 is similar to the OP's, with roller lifters, one piece rear main seal, etc.
Broken in with "regular" Valvoline.

i used to use Redline 10W-30 syn in the 305 because this has enough ZDDP for the flat lifters. But the more i go on, do you really need ZDDP with stock valve springs? So that's another area of debate..............

M1 in the SRT, the rest of the fleet gets whatever name brand that is on sale usually.

If it's a full roller motor then it gets M1 0w20 (DexOS rated). If it's partial roller (not rocker) or flat tappet it gets some kind of synthetic 5w30. Usually M1, or Castrol. Castrol full synthetic is not what it used to be.

Not a fan of Pennzoil or Valvoline motor oils. Valvoline makes good gear oil.

I'll probably even switch the full roller Cadillac 500 I just put together to 0w20.

Usually use some kind of Purolator synthetic oil filter. I do often use the plain jane Purolators though. Even on my 2015 Sierra.

M1 for me. Filters at 5k, changes at 10k. I'm about to turn over 200k on my DD F-150.

I use Shaefer synthetic for vintage and a gold Napa filter. 8.1 suburban and Forester get Peak bulk syn blend from work with A/C & Subaru filters. Actually works good.

I’ve been using Schaeffer for over 25 years. I know it can’t be bought at chain stores but it is pretty easy to get.
I’ve always been in business where we used Schaeffer in machines and road tractors so it has always been easily available to me.
My logic is that Schaeffer is largely marketed to industrial applications and fleet vehicles where they are more likely to be taken to task for their claims of longevity.
Large fleet managers would have the capacity to log data and see actual benefits of one over the other and Schaeffer has been successful without going through chain stores.

I like Schaeffer's as well. But I didn't post earlier because it isn't available in retail stores. I have been using some of their products at work for close to 10 years, and now even their engine oil for over a year. We are using a semi-synthetic blend and we checked one truck with a flir camera before and after switching. It lost about 10* on the oil temperature after running all day in summer. (Same driver as well) We had a truck run 1049hrs on the oil and the sample came back fine. They stated to continue same interval. We don't like to let them go that long, but some guys don't think that they need to do write- ups.
I have been using their full synthetic diesel oil in my roller cam big block for about 8K miles. It uses less oil now than when it was running Rotella. It also takes a little longer for the oil to get to maximum temperature. It may be a little cooler, but it's hard to actually tell on a short sweep electric gauge.
We have verified that their semi-synthetic gear oil will lower temperatures in gearboxes in the batch plant, and it will also go over a year without showing much sign of contamination. The conventional Mobil oil would be dark and dirty after 6 months. The temperature came down to where you can touch the gearboxes after a long summer day of mixing concrete. We never checked it with a temp gun, but the plant operator told me that he couldn't touch them before.

I usually use Castrol. 22 bucks ur something at Walmart. Was on sale for $17 last time I was there so bought four of them. Both my car and truck have not had any problems over 100,000 now and just follow the vehicles oil gauge to see when to change it. It still looks Fairly clean at that point but it’s just easier to keep it clean and make it last longer in the end.
