who likes what brand for stock single o.e.m position ?

will be going on a dana 60 with 35" tires .

what brand / model do you like ?

Used to be you could get them with a lifetime warranty and just swap every few years if it started to rust or you dented it wheeling. Don't know if that's still an option. Other than that, i don't know if there is much difference between standard brands. The Bilstein is supposed to be better, but how much of a problem does it have to solve? The ultimate dampener must be a hydraulic ram.

I remember reading somebody had a problem with the gas charged bilstien making the truck pull one way.

Yeah, the Bilstein ones tend to make them drift because they are charged. I would just do a cheap Monroe from the parts store, that has seemed to work for me. I replace every 3 years or so.

I think I've had a big Heckethorn one on all my GM 4x4's..are they still around ?..one on my '82 GMC was on it when I got it in 2003,and was probably old then!...

I've done ok with the rancho rs9000. Our local parts house carries them for 90.00 noticeable difference in that and a stock size/dampening. I can get a lifetime warranty from them when I buy it. Replaced one that got bent last season. No muss, no fuss...just swapped it out with them.

A single charged dampener doesn't make sense. You would have to run two, facing opposite directions.

Does Rough Country still sell the Heckethorn brand? I bet most of the lift kit branded dampeners are all Gabriels. I've had a lifetime warranty Gabriel from Autozone for possibly 15 years. They still swap it whenever I want. I never have any shimmy issues, so I have no incentive to find something else. They can really last a long time, as they really don't move much. It's just about how long till you dent it or the rod gets rust and takes out the seal.

What's a steering dampener....lol
