what can a dana 44 handle

Well, my 10 bolt has just about had it I can grab the yoke and move the pinion around as well as it has an axle seal that leaks bad when the trucks off camber. I have a dana 44 laying in my garage that i got for the knuckles for crossover. I'm planing to run 37's will the 44 be able to handle that or should I try to find a dana 60?

That's really subjective on driving style, terrain, tires, etc.

It's definitely the upper limit of a 44. If you're hard on equipment at all or if your rig is anything but lightweight, I wouldn't put the effort or the money in to anything smaller than a 60.

i riped 2 44 with 4.10 guts out on 38" tsl tires in less than a year.

went 60 the third redo and never looked back over 10 years ago and that 60 is still going with no major service work and under truck #2 now with 8ft snow plow on it and 35" tires for past 5 or more years .

its all how you drive and were you play .

Whole lotta of subjectiveness going on with a question like that.

I know guys who have broken dana 60s on 37s with ease.

I also know guys who run 37s with open 44s in the front with no problem.

Here is the thing if you put enough money in the 44 yes it certainly can be built to handle the 37s. It will handle it will heavy wheels and a locker. You will break stuff every now and again.

But if you find a decent deal on a 60 it will handle the 37s with the same ease as a built 44 and you can still build it. Without a huge differential in price.

I think the general concesus around here has always been that a d44 is good to 35s. As said you'll sink alot of money into it making it able to handle serious terrain on 37 with a full-size.

With a mid size or mini truck like an s10 a Dana 44 is awesome for 37s built but driving style can change everything realty quickly

Thanks for the input I'm leaving for basic training on the 5th so the blazers gonna be on the back burner for a while looks like ill be going with a Dana 60 when I get the chance

If you have the 44 and it doesn't take much money to get it running, then I say "why not?". If you need to swap gears, do crossover, etc., then things should be re-evaluated more carefully.

I think a 10b/44 front is OK with 37s as long as the diff is open and you don't treat it too bad.

i already have the 44 and crossover i would have to put gears in it and replace all the seals why its already out of the truck i would also like to have a locker
