i searched but didn't find anything...

i know i can get them from a pickup with a deisel but the yards are picked clean around here and they don't have any. but while i was out one day i noticed a sh!t ton of chevy vans with hydroboost in them. i can't remember what model van...

anyway, will the hydroboost unit from a van work? what else will i have to get while i'm at the junkyard?

Vans, Asto Vans, 3/4t trucks, 1t trucks, diesel trucks, box vans, etc etc.

Also most speed shops now . The aftermarket has finally realized you can run a wilder cam with power brakes if you go Hydro , and nice billet and chrome setups are available now . Will need adapting .

eBay!!!!!!! Though make sure you get a nicer looking one or you will end up rebuilding it. If it looks beat up it probably is. I picked up my setup for just over $80.... all parts included. Bolted right in (mostly... just slight adjustments to the brake light switch) and works great!!!! Make sure if you are buying on ebay, or any used setup, that you get the steel rod that goes between the hydro boost and the master cylinder.

I usually use the astro ban units, they are easy to get out and cna be bought from the local pick and pull for 20-30 bucks with master cylinder. I grab a master cylinder resevoir from a truck or s10 to replace the funky astro van piece.

Remember that there are PITA nuts under the dash you have to remove... or it will never come out!

one thing to keep in mind, I have no idea about part numbers, just dim memories..

the military diesel pickups/blazers (the 1982 series with the 6.2L diesels)
there were 2 different hydro boosters, one for the truck, and one for the blazers
they were almost identical, but not safe to interchange, one had a chamfer on the front, one didn't, and I don't remember which was which

put the blazer one on a pickup- almost NO brakes
put the pickup one on a blazer- blow on the pedal and it would just about lock it up

pickups were M1008 series, blazer was the M1009 if you see one listed by what it came out of.

make sure you have proper free travel on the pedal to the booster, since it uses power steering pressure, it will over heat the oil if too tight.

Are you sure? Advance list the same part number for all these.

I've got one from a diesel Blazer and one from a truck and there is no visual difference.

maybe it was the master cylinders and not the hyrdo boosters, I don't remember for sure. i just remember that when the CUCV series came out, that there were some problems with the brakes, and that there was a safety bulletin about not interchanging the parts between the blazers and the pickups, and that the difference to look for was a chamfer on one of them.

just thought i'd toss this point out there, hoping someone else would know for sure, and maybe help prevent anyone from doing the conversion, and getting in a wreck because of a brake failure.

i've read here that you might as well get the brake pedal also, if i get one from an astro van do i need to get the pedal, or just get the booster and master cylinder?

Bump.

I have a 89 suburban(gas) want to convert to hydroboost. Will I need to change the pedal. If so will a pedal from a diesel blazer or truck interchange? Will i need the whole pedal assemble or just the brake arm? what years will I need to look for?

Anyone have pics of a hydro and vac pedal side by side?

In my case ('74 PU, obviously later hydroboost), the brake pedal levers were different, i.e. the attachment point for the booster was not the same.

But yes, the brake lever interchanges, so you can remove all three pedals, switch the brake one, then put the assembly back.

Others have said that later pedals are identical; I can't verify this.
