What causes this??

I am guessing my rear driveshaft didnlt have enough slip?? It must be too long or too short.

it looks to me like you need new tcase mounts on your cross-member, or motor mounts. Too long of a driveshaft could have caused it, but I would think your tcase or adapter would have broken first.

looks like the slip yoke was pivoting a little in there and pretty much prying against the housing. just a guess.

The driveshaft being too long could cause that, as well as transmission/motor mounts.

Thanks for the quick replies. No slip yoke on the t-case, I have an SYE kit.

The tranny/tcase and motor mounts look to be OK, how do I tell if they are bad?

then yeah, i'll throw in another vote for long d-shaft or, if the slip section is worn or dirty and binding during compression, it would be like having a shaft that was too long, if only for an instant.

You messed that up by taking out the tranny. Normally I would say to stand on the brake and apply a little throttle in fwd and rvrs, while having someone else watch for movement. Only other way that I know is to get a cherry picker for the engine and a jack for the tcase and remove them. It should be one piece between the mount points. If the rubber is broken, it's bad.

Last one I saw like that took a hit from below on a rock...although a front driveline without enough slip could do that if you bounce the truck hard enough to fully collapse the shaft.

I was going through a mud pit when it happened, nothing too rough though. I was bleeding traany fluid when I came out the other side. The reason I think it may be the rear dshaft is I had it retubed a few months ago. I broke the shaft in the badlands a while ago and had a local shop basically put a new tube and slip yoke in it. They told me they made it the same as the original that HAD built for me about 4 years ago. Never had any problems until the shaft was 'rebuilt'.​
