maby link to a right clunch and flywheel for sale ?

sorry if this is posted in the wrong place

thanks

Why would you need a new flywheel? Just turn the one you have when you take it out for the clutch job.

There is no need to replace the flywheel however once you get the truck apart you will need to take the flywheel to a machine shop and have them resurface it for you. Also if the teeth on the ring gear are bad they can install a new ring gear for you as well. As far as what size clutch you will need to wait until you have the clutch out as there are 2 different sizes that were available and so you'll need to have a parts store match them up. Don't forget to install a new pilot bearing and throwq out bearing as well.

The truck clutches are commonly 11", car clutches for the same engine are commonly 10". A 12" clutch fits just fine though, as long as you get the matching pressure plate.

The pressure plate is held on by 6 bolts. The SM 465 input is 1 1/8" diameter and is 10 spline.

i would recomend a diaphram clutch. Much better feel and lighter pedal effort than the other style which is a 3 finger pressure plate...commonly known as a Borg & Beck clutch.

A great brand of clutch kit is the Luk Pro-Gold. Don't get a re-manufactured clutch.

about the flywheel.. The clutch has been slipping for about 8 mounths but clutch died last weekend and i think the flywheel must by werry bad after all that clutch slip.

The flywheel is basically a big thick chunk of steel. What tends to happen is they get heat scored (blue/brown discoloration), and surface cracks can develop. There is no need to replace it though, all of that can be machined out when you have it "re-surfaced". I think I paid $30 to have my flywheel resurfaced a couple of years ago.

With my SM465 I run a 12inch dual friction centerforce, been a great clutch, has been in my truck for about 6 years now, I've towed a 26 foot trailer many times, lots of wheeling, and stop and go traffic, and it still works and feels as good as the day I put it in.

As for your fly wheel, even with slipping you should be able to get it resurfaced, unless it has hot spots. If you take it out and its spotted like a leopard or dalmatian, then its time for a new one.

Not true, the hot spots will surface out. I've been resurfacing flywheels for 22+ years and the hot spots have always surfaced out without a problem. The surface cracks on the other hand sometimes will not come all the way out but that doesn't affect the clutch from working properly and is of no concern it some still exist after it has been resurfaced.

Have you re-geared? Those are massive, heavy tires and I would think you'd need something in the 4.88-5.13 range to relieve the stress on the driveline. Very good looking truck by the way! :waytogo:

I'd go as far as saying 5.86 or deeper would be even better. Depends on the diffs though...if it has the 14 bolt rear the deepest available is 5.38...
