I really don't know where to go with this? I going to put a 700r4 in the place of my manual 3sp in my 1970 GMC short bed. 205 transfer case and 3:08 gears. Does anybody know what converter I may want to install in the place of the stock lock-up converter? I've been reading allot on the internet and now even more confused!

First you need to ask yourself what will I be doing with this truck. If you are mudding you may want a higher stall then stock. If you are rock crawling you want a stall speed that is lower than stock. If this is a daily driver I would go with a stock converter maby a few hundred RPMS above stock.
If your engine is camed then go bigger then stock. Find something that will work real will with your trucks set up.
I have a converter for a 700R4 I will sell to you real cheap. It cam out of my 1986 K5 with a 350.
Thanks
Adam

700R4 converter

Thanks for the quick reply Adam. The truck will not be leaving pavement with exception to the dirt roads in southern Colorado. Primarily a daily driver/show truck. I love to drive and show it off. I combined a 350 and a 327 and came out with a 333. A larger cam and dome pistons. A little higher RPM and allot more torque. Willy

700R4 converter

? I can't remeber the specs?? I was told it was a number 2 rv cam. If that makes any sence? It's been a while since the build, but I may be able to find the paper work.

I think if you ran a coverter that was around stock-1700 stall you should be fine. I think I heard that the stock stall speed on a most of your trucks is 1400.
Thanks
Adam

give a big name tranny builder place a call. i know a guy who had art carr build him a tranny and converter based on his cam. give them a call, they would know best.

get a new lockup converter from bowtie along with there lockup kit. i think the 1800rpm HD converter is the one they'll recommend. i wouldnt get a used lockup converter.
