I went and did it, bought another project I didn't need. A buddy of mine wanted to unload his project truck. Has the whole, kid, wife, house thing going so he just can't finish it in the forseeable future. So I asked how much, when he told me the price I instantly snapped, "I'll take it!". I feel bad because this does in fact mean the S10 will have to go, but the deal was just TOO good. And he offered it to me on a day when I was regreting the S10 because of the, non-street legal thing.

So here she is:

A 1988 1500 stepside. More details after the pictures.

Little rot under the bed:

Broken fiberglass at about every corner of the bed:

465-205 nestled under it:

Details:
So I picked it up for $500. It has an ORU SAS kit on the front end with brand new BDS 5.5" lift springs. Rear has 4" springs, believe they may be Skyjacker, but not certain on that one, and 4" blocks(Shackle flip candidate?). Has a 3" body lift, which will be the first thing to go. Gave me the 465-205 combo, even though I told him to keep that. He tried to give me the 454 that was in it as well, but I just felt bad about that idea. For $500 I'd be ripping him off to take the engine, so he kept that. Has a 3/4 ton 10 bolt and 14 bolt semi floater. 10 bolt has the really expensive ORU crossover knuckle. He converted it to stick so I have a manual pedal assembly now, gets me closer to puting a NV4500 in my tow rig.

The bed is a little rough is the only disappointment. Rustier than I remembered and the fiberglass isn't doing so well. Debating on whether I should try patching it up or just screw it and replace it with a jungle gym of tubing.

Plans:
-drop in my 383 propane engine
-4L80E backed by a SYE 241
-HP Ford D60
-14 Bolt
-Shackle flip to lose the blocks
-Zero rate up front to relocate forward
-Zero rate out back to move back
-Lose the body lift.
-38 or 39s.
-Possibly a rollcage/tube bed, debating that.
-94+ grill swap

At the moment it sits ass low, but the springs are brand new and there is no wait on the front end. I didn't note it sitting so raked when the big block was in there, so some weight will help things I hope. I'd rather have a lower lift setup at least as far as flex is concerned, but the springs are already on there so they are just going to stay in place. Probably replace the bushings with greasable units though.

Half way home I rudely discovered the bed was NOT bolted down. And with the size of the trailer, the bed was overhanging out the back! So I had to stop and chain that to the frame. Scary to see the bed sticking off the side a bit when its loaded full of parts. As if it wasn't crappy enough that I didn't have any trailer lights or brakes. Something is wrong with the wiring on my truck, need to look into that. Oh and there was a parade in town, so there were fire police and cops everywhere!

Glad you didn't lose the bed in the road.:eek1: I definitely agree with you on the bodylift, that's gotta go. Looks like it's kinda screwing up one of the bodymounts too, is it as crooked and squished out as it looks? Kudos on getting a stepside though. Maybe you can find a price on an older bed that's made out of metal, and swap it on? I think that might look interesting, the newer truck with a bed similar to mine.

Seen a lot of guys put the fiberglass beds on the older trucks, never the other way around. I have also never seen a stepside in good shape around here. All rot buckets beyond repair. So I will probably do a quick look for another fiberglass bed and go from there.

That body mount is all screwed up yes. The one body lift block on the driver's side fell out in transport so the front end is all crooked in the picture.

you should part it out.

whats holding the trans and case in? doesn't look like the adapter is bolted to anything.

its sandwiched between the body and crossmember. Yea, didn't notice that until I got it home either

I know what you mean by too many projects. I have the 89, still debating on parting, 92 Blazer that I hope to get in a couple hours, the 93 S-10 Blazer that I will proby get rid of, and a 94 Silverado that buddy and I went halfs on. Then I run into a buddy that haven't talked to in awhile, might trade for an 88 Monte SS. Thinking of dropping in the 454/400 that is in the 89 now. THEN I find a super clean 79 Malibu, guy might trade that for the 94. Wife still doesn't know about the 92 Blazer, she knows bout the 94, and maybe trading that, and she flipped out. Maybe if I let her drive one she will get over it.

P.S. Missed going to the Postal Office, I'll go Monday and get the m/o and send it out.....

Ah, that's right. It's easy for me to forget about things like that, cause nothing ever rusts around here. Must be sad seeing so many of the older vehicles in that condition all the time.:p:
