On a '91 K5. And yes, I know it has the VSS but I've never messed with one of these before so teach me what to do and how much am I looking at to fix or replace it?

I'd start by pulling the sensor and seeing if their is a buildup of grit on it.

My speedo/odo weren't working in my '89 and turns out the speedo cable tip had broken off in the back of the speedo gauge. Replaced the speedo cable ($25 from NAPA) and it was good to go.

I also have never messed with a model that had the VSS, have u tried to remove the cable at the T-case , chuck a drill to the cable and see if the gauge works? Fairly unlikely but you still could have a stripped drive end in the speedo gear, od busted drive or driven gear. If it was me id start at the t-case and move toward the gauge.

Ah, my bad!

Not to hijack, but does anyone know of a way I can adjust my speedo to compensate for tire size?

Right now my speedo is indicating approx. 5mph slower than actual speed at 70mph, and I have 31" tires on the stock suspension so I don't think it should be off at all.
