What do you guys do to prevent rust? MORE PICS POST #27

What do you guys do to prevent rust?
Live in the desert.:zombie7:

Sorry - I couldn't resist. I grew up in Wisconsin, and therefore I know what you're going thru. I'm pretty sure I could make a viable business out of hauling desert southwest vehicles and parts to the east/midwest.

When you use the fluid-film, do you have to get it down to bare metal or can you just spray everything?

By the look of things on the fluid film website, you can use it on oxidized paint jobs - you rub it on just like wax:

So I'm assuming you can just spray it everywhere and not worry about damaging your paintjob? That would be too good to be true..

Now I just need to get a lift and a heated garage so I can do this on a weekly basis.. :doah:

Thanks for your input guys. I have a couple more questions now..

-I need a new exhaust system in my throttle-body injected K5, what would be some good choices that will last longer than a year? i.e., 10 years would be nice.. I'm considering the edelbrock shorty headers with ti-tech coating and possibly A.I.R.? Would the ti-tech coating make it last through the winters?

I might get a muffler shop to make up a new exhaust system for me. I would think that the brackets for a bolt-on system would be more likely to rust than a nice, clean welded job. I'm also going to go back to single exit exhaust to save some money and go quieter. Any suggestions on mufflers and cats?

-I'm also considering getting some herculiner for the rockers and anywhere else that would be prone to rusting under the body. Here is an example of what I would do:

Here is a fellow's rig I ran into one day on my way home. I hope he doesn't mind me posting his rig up here. Nice guy with a very well done bedliner'd suburban. I'm thinking of doing something along these lines as well (I like the dash idea too).

If you want headers to least 10 years through salty winters you better get stainless steel.

I'm not too sold on the header coatings. I've had two sets of headers not hold up good to salt, so I gotta push L&L's again....nickle coated and built like a brick sh!thouse.
the rest of the exhaust I wouldn't go with anything less than 16 ga. aluminized tubing if you can find it.

What kind of headers did you try? Just so I know NOT to try them.

L&L's??

so how does that work with the dash pad shot with bedliner? It it flexible enough to not crack when you push on it? It looks awesome, just wondering how it holds up...
