What do you guys think of this K5

Doesn'took to bad. The tub appears to not be too rusty. Th350 was swapped in.it may just need a new governor or modulator to shift right. Transfer could be a linkage or shift rail problem. I'd buy it if I needed one. Get some pics of the floor and underneith and see what other rust you can see. Doesn't say Milage but I'm guessing stock 305 with a few upgrades. Ask if it was rebuilt or anything besides what was listed.

Well it says it's carb'd so I assume it's not the stock motor in it. Shouldn't it be a TBI If its a 88.

I texted him to see if I could get some pics of the under side of it and the floor pan. Hopefully it's solid

The driver's side front door sill has a decent sized rust hole. You'd have to see it in person to find out what other rust issues it has.
While you're at it you can ask him why the "duel front shocks" are fighting each other. :p: :haha:

Right away I'd pass. I see:

1. Wrong motor. That means you immediately won't pass emissions, so you cannot register or drive it until you've fixed that. That may mean installing a complete TBI system depending on how strict your local/state emissions requirements are. I've done that before, and I won't make that mistake again.

2. Transmission is dead. It's not "slipping" ... it's TOAST. That is why he can't drive it. That's a ton of work and significant cost to fix or replace. If the truck were spotless otherwise, okay, but it's not even close.

3. Rust-through on the floor. I bet the entire underneath is shot. Check inside the rear wheel wells and I bet you can put your hand through the body!

I would ask for photos of the engine bay, underneath the body especially in the wheel wells, and under the rear tailgate. I bet he won't send them, because the truck is trashed.

I'd pay $500 tops for that as I see it right now.

I'd def. get more pics or go look at it. Remember, it is an older k5, so you should know you'll get someone elses problems, even if they are small. And rust just depends on what part of the country the vehicle is coming from. My k5 came from inland SC so it has zero rust on it. For the transfer case problem, i suspect linkage, as someone else already noted. Even if the transmission is toasted, its a th350, you can get them anywhere. Dont be afraid of a little transmission work, find someone who works on them and give them a hand with labor and pay for parts. Im sure since your looking at an older k5 that you're mechanically inclined anyway. I wouldnt pay more than about 2K for the truck though, but i've seen k5s in far worse shape. Good luck

Yea what others have said. Also check behind the seats on the side where seat belts attach to it and the routine places also.

Somethings up with the tcase if he cant get it to stay in 4hi. At best its an adjustment, worst you need to tear it apart. Looks like too much for what it is

Agreed.

A lot of times I think guys just throw stuff up on CL to see if someone will bite at their asking price. $2400 should get you a much nicer rig.

Have you gotten any pics yet? It does have different things swapped on but you can use that to drop the price. If you want a unmolested truck this one ain't it. If it isn't rusted and can be fixed fairly cheap it could be a fun truck. There are better ones out there I'm sure.the interior don't look too beat up either.
