So I have fuel tank issues with Big Ugly. Going to be pretty much replacing everything to do with the fuel tank.

Meanwhile, I'm having a hard time finding the fuel tank isolators. LMC has them but they're expensive and I don't want to buy just those from them. What have you guys used?

Any particular thoughts on stuff to use in places that see an actual winter? Not much of one, but we do get cold, wet, and road salt. Not that I'm planning on it seeing much of the winters but still...

If you are talking about the "paper" between the straps and the tank itself, i ordered from LMC, and it was not expensive at all. After getting the kit, it seemed that it was little more than strips of roofing paper. And not even adhesive backed like i had hoped.

Hrmmmm...that's not good. You guys use anything to adhere it?

I swear whatever's on Big Ugly was rubber and my buddy reported it to me as rubber...albeit crumbling and all down towards the bottom where it seemed to have sagged down to or not been pulled up from when the tank was apparently dropped.

Seems to me like it should be some kind of rubber and then glued in place.

I would imagine that rubber would induce a squeak . If that doesnt bother you any give it a shot, anything soft without being too soft is all your looking for to keep metal off metal

I went to Home Depot and bought a roll of #30 tar paper. I think it's 300' long, I used about a 1' of it  It cost $23. Let me know how much you need. If I can find a way to ship it easily I will send it if you pay for the shipping. I tried to use gorilla glue to attach the tar paper to the tank, but it didn't work for crap. I ended up duct taping the paper to the straps. The straps go into groves on the tank (at least on my Suburban), so they are not going to go anywhere.

How's that tar paper hold up to being wet and stuff? It rains here...a lot. Then there's winter.

On a new tank, I like to spray the area where the straps go with that non-drying clear undercoating stuff. It helps hold the tar paper in place too. I also spray it along the top of the tank seam where they tend to rust out.

i used rustoleum bed liner on my whole gas just cuz i like the look but between the tank and mount i used the rubber they put on some roofs befor they put a tin roof on. no squeaking and i think it works good for its use

I used some strips of old towels when I put the TBI tank in, theres lots of grease and oil on them so I dont think rotting will be an issue lol.

I had next to no cash when I was doing this so I had to use what I had.

I used a cut up traffic cone. Just cut some strips to the right length and width and on they went. Seems like it's held up fine.

a bicycle inner tube.

That's what I used also. I used 3M spray glue on the straps. Stuck it on and that's it. No problems so far. Bicycle tube is pretty thick. No squeks at all. Works great IMHO. Cheap too. $4.00 at Chinamart. Well, goodluck and I hope fot the best.

I actually think I have some bicycle tube sitting here in my closet...
