Got a little story on this. When I go on road trips, I have tool box full of miscellaneous tools, box full of rubber hoses and rope, box full of fluids and whatever else fits my fancy, spare tire and appropiate tools. A few years ago, I had gone about 1000 miles on a bad waterpump. I had stayed at my grandparents' and got a new pump, next morning went to change it and I had everything I needed except for one socket which I had to borrow from my grandparents.

And one little bit of advice, ALWAYS carry blue shop towels. You might not need them for your hands, but they work in a pinch in the place of toilet paper.
