Replaced my high pressure hose a while back and filled it up with what it came with....power steering fluid.

Stephen,

I am interested in your comment about synthetic ps fluid. When I installed my WTOR Ram they recommended the synthetic because it foamed less and disapated the heat better. Now you've got me wondering.

I always run PS fluid, is carrying two different fluids really an argument for not using PS fluid??? We wheel in some of the biggest 4x4's out there, but don't have room for a few bottles of PS fluid?

Umm, I think it's "Dexron" and Dorian's being funny.

Dextron, Dexron what the hell. It is ATF fluid and is what GM says to use if you look at the PS resevoir cap.

So, what GM PN does everyone use for their PS fluid. I've got two bottles

PN 12345866 The back reads "Gm PowerSteering Fluid - COLD CLIMATE is a partially snthetic base power steering fluid with exceptional low termperature properties. This product increases oxidation stability and is specifically recommended for cold climate conditions with temperatures below -20F."

and my other bottle

PN 89021184 The back reads "Especially formulated to provide non-corrosive and non-foaming action qualities with excellent lubrication for year round use."

I've seen a few other part numbers out there. My bottles are 16 oz. each. I think the larger bottles of the same stuff have different part numbers.

ATF with a touch of STP oil treatment. Seems to boost the pump pressure and gives it a little more assist.

Like Steven said anything oil based on the trail to get me home.

Since I changed out the pump, put in a cooler, and new gear box, Im running Valvoline SynPower synthetic p/s fluid right now. It works, but thats all I can say as of now. Havent been wheeling yet.

I'd been running Valvoline synthetic p/s fluid.

However, when my reman pump took a dump on the trail my wife had to get parts and fluid from a store in BFE. I told her what I wanted, including synthetic p/s fluid. So they sold her synthetic tranny fluid. Guess that's what I'm running now. Seems to work. :dunno:

My mom is a vet, so I borrowed a seringe and needle started sucking fluid out of the resevoir.

i'd hate to be the dog who got stuck in the @ss with that needle afterward.

they have little turkey-baster type tools for that purpose.

The syeringe is quit retired from any use on animals.. they are disposable. Man this thread is ancient.
