hey rebel, do you know if they (beadlocks) are street legal in va, it is a long way to the trail heads from here. I know i have asked this question before but everytime i get an answer i just get more confused. anybody got some info on this.

to the best of my knowledge they are not street legal in VA...but there are so many heeps around my area running the fake beadlocks i could probably get away with running them just to the mud or trails and back...
im thinking of investing in a set for the paragon run...but that means id have to either haul them up to PA separately...or drive up there on them and that might be a pain

my thoughts exactlly, would hate to trailer 4 extra wheels, might as well trailer the whole blazer, but now i would need a trailer, and a duramax /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif

Do you drive your rig to and from where you wheel? I have driven mine more than 6.5 hours one way and would not want to have problems with these if I installed some. What are your thoughts about street driving to and from trails with these beadlocks? Thanks for posting, I did read your article and it definately has me interested.

Beadlocks in any for are NOT DOT legal. There have been a few threads on why this is the case. I think it was something about rapid presure loss if something went wrong with the lock but i dont really rember.

I call BS too! I just got some beadlocks and plan to drive them to Tellico which is about 2 1/2 hours for me. /forums/images/icons/cool.gif

I think it's BS too. What about Split Rim truck rims? They'd do the same thing. I know how bad it could be as I've had the "safety" ring blow off a split rim driving down a tight mtn. road. When it blew it took the tire next to it out too. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif /forums/images/icons/blush.gif /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif
So are you saying the civ model Hummers that come from the factory with beadlocks are not DOT legal? Wow, maybe someone should let GM & AMG know! BS, show me the the law in print.

I do currently drive to and from the trails (well, I did before parting out the Xj :-(...the beadlocks are for sale BTW!).
Most is about 2 hours one-way. never had a problem or an issue.
Power tank ran empty once - drove at 50 km/h for a few miles on 3 psi!! NO problems whatsoever.
I don;t usually rave about products - but these are a good piece of kit

Beadlocks are illegal to use on the road, in my state.
Just like the Jeep Libertiy is illgal in Penn.(?) (thought I read a "blip" about that somewhere, something about the height of the factory installed roof lights)
Just because beadlocks might be DOT approved - doesn't make them legal for use on the road.
It's a state by state kinda thang'.
Something to keep inmind when your reading and gathering information "over the net".
Some modifications might fly in one state, but it'll get you up-close and personal to a State Trooper in another state. Maybe your home state.

Neil, I'd leave the hex head bolts alone, no countersinking. Our resident set of "becklocks" on Beck's buggy have been pounded pretty good and the bolt heads really don't show any wear. It doesn't seem to hurt to have them sticking out. Well, maybe a little pain in the bling but that's about it.
Welding skill is key, and with 32 3/8" bolts, you don't have to worry about coning, hitting them, etc. There's so many extra that a more stress on them won't hurt a bit. TR's work fine with 20 5/16" bolts.

I've seen Beck drive. If they hold up for him, They would work for most people. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
