Hey guys so the clutch went on my 84 k5. What should i be expecting to pay to have a new one instaled. I dont think im capable of doing it myself. How hard do your think a self install would be?

You'll probably pay someone about $500.00 - $550.00 to R&R the clutch including the clutch.

thats not to bad of a price. Ill start looking around

Last time a friend had a clutch put in it cost about $550. That was for a 2WD Dakota. Most of that is labor, getting the tranny out and back in. The parts were only about $125 or so. He had them replace the pressure plate, clutch disk and throwout bearing. All of those parts usually come in the clutch kit since it's a good idea to replace them all at the same time.

Depending on condition, the flywheel may need to be resurfaced or replaced but only if it's in really bad shape.

On my K20, the flywheel was glazed and had been overheated many times so I had to get a new flywheel. I forget what I paid for it but it was in the neighborhood of $100-150 (though I could be wrong).

You should resurface the flywheel every time the clutch is replaced. It only costs $30-40 which is cheap insurance compared to the cost of having a clutch replaced (again :doah:)

do it yourself all you need is borrow a trans jack (or just man up) and a friend to help. oh and a clutch alignment tool...

I would say do it yourself. Mine went out on 9/11/01 and I did the swap on my dirt driveway. It wasn't that hard- except that there was an inch of mud on everything. I dont rember how much it cost, but it was well below $500. Besides my lift, that was the first major work I had done, just followed a manual and went at it.
