So i've got a 77 K5 with about eight inches of lift (6" of that is spring). This trucks suspension was origonally made to accommodate 44" tires. Now I only wanna run 39's. sooo lowering it would be best i believe. I'm thinking 4" lift springs of some sort, but the nitch of the rig is I want it to be really good at rock crawling. So what would you fellas do? 4" lift springs or 52's? Should i use the DIY B52's as well? I'm asking this cause the other threads i read get a bit confusing are are a bit too broad. so I'm asking about my rig in particular.

P.S. this truck is dovetailed and narrowed so there will be no issues with rubbing and what not.

I would go with some 56's in the front and 63's with a shackle flip in the rear. The 56's are easier to install then 52's because you keep the stock shackle location. Then I would throw the b52 kit up in front, that thing is beefy. Throw on some ford shock towers and long ass shocks and maybe make a long travel square tube front drive shaft and your good to go. I would also lose the body lift if you are only running 39's

Shock towers are done. and the other 2" of lift are from the home made shackle flip in the back (something I don't trust one bit) and longer shackles in the front. I plan on replacing the home made shackle flip with a DIY.

O BTW I just bought this rig so... yea don't think I'm crazy enough to do that home made shackle flip crap.

Nor Cal Kid is right the 56s up front gives a great shackle angle. One thing you might want to include in your buildup is a traction bar. There is a reason that link suspensions do so well in the rocks, alot of that reason is axle control you can't power up something if your axle is hopping up and down

63s in the back is a great idea too.

yeah there are a few type-O's on the poll. I know I know:D

If rubbing the body is truely not a concern, I would get the truck dow as low as you can. 2-3" of lift. That is best for rock crawling. Low COG is the best for balance. IIRC Stephen(of ORD) is only running a couple inches of lift on the shop rig.

The last option should be install a 4" nekkid.:D
That is the type-O I was talkin about. I cant seem to see an option for editing a pole. so just insert nekkid where applicable.

im running lifted 52's up front and lifted 64's in the back on my k5, im satisfied with it

I am of a different opinion than most about COG it needs to remain low but it doesn't have to be the lowest you can possibly get it. Your truck needs to be able to get up on a rock in order to climb that rock. Its all about trade offs get it lower than most but don't go insane low. I think about 5 to 7" of lift is good for what you are doing. Bumpers that can be bashed and that will skid until the truck gets to the tire too:D

I'm about on the same page as you right now. I think it'll be about 4" to 5" of lift when I'm done.

X2

I am running about stock height with 42's.

I'm unsure about Stephen's buggy but I bet his is about the same height as mine (just guessing from the last time we were out last Fall).

You want the lowest center of gravity you can while still preserving the best belly clearance you can. My belly clearance is 23" (most buggies are 18-24") and my max height is 81" (6' 9").
