My brother has an 88k5 with the 350 and 700r4. Both front and rear axles are 10 bolts. He has a set of new 5.13 gears for the front and rear. It had 35in tires, but he down graded to 33's. The gears were originally bought for the 35's and eventually 38's. Yea, I know that's alot for a 10 bolts but this is the daily driver not the mud truck.

Now the question is, are 5.13 to low for the 700r4 with 33's? Also if he changes the rear 1st, would he run into any problems in 2wd and/or 4wd. The gears are currently 3.73.

Thanks

Has he run the 33's with the 3.73 in yet? He might like that set up. I'm currently running 35's with 4.10's and there is lots of power. I have a tbi350/700/208 with a 10B/12B. 5.13's seem like an awfull lot for a street truck. That's my $.02

he'll run into major problems if he tries 4wd w/ different gears in the front than the back.

Not only do 5.13s/33s seem too steep for the street, but 5.13s in 10-bolts are just a plain bad idea, IMHO.

I would recommend your buddy do some more research and planning on what exactly he wants to do with this rig.

I've run 33s with 4.10 and no OD. I didn't feel I was lacking anything offroad, but highway driving at 3000rpm isn't my idea of a good time. ;)
