What does a doubler do exactly?

<font color="red"> </font> I hear about doublers all the time but don't know exactly what they are. I am assuming it is something to the effect of crawling gears or something like that. it basically gives u 4to1 instead of 2or so to 1 low range .

Its basically two transfer cases back to back to multiply gear reduction.
