What does it mean?

I was doing a front gear swap on my rig yesterday, when the guy helping me asked me what "K5" stood for. I felt stupid, but I didn't really know. At first, I thought the K might designate 4-wheel drive. I looked through the site and on the net and have been unable to get a clear answer. Can somone answer my stupid question of the day

Yes, all K-series trucks are 4X4 and the 5 refers to blazers. But what is a 2wd fullsize blazer called? I have never seen a C-5 emblem on a blazer

That's what I figured, but I wondered about the two wheel drive models also.

Back in the day when trucks were trucks and the acronym SUV was unheard of...and driving something called crossover would likely get you shot...

...K5's were the Blazer/Jimmys. K1x were half tons, K2x were 3/4 tons, and K3x's were 1 tons.

For Chevy's x=0 while for GMC's x=5. Basically a K10 and a K15 were the same thing.

4x2's were the same scheme but with a C replacing the K's.

As far as 2wd Blazer/Jimmy's...I dunno if anyone has proven either way. I remember a good number of years ago we got in a big debate about it on here. The few members with 2wd's managed to come down on both sides of the issue if I remember correctly. Both seemed to have proof that there was or wasn't a "C5".

Yea when I got my 2wd blazer like 6 years ago, it had no emblems on it. But the front clip was from a different year, like 73 or 74. In all the books or magazines that I have read about 2wd blazers, they are always called k-5s. I dont know why

I had one..

I owned a bone stock '75 Chevy Blazer 2wd years ago...it had "K5" emblems on the fenders!...guess GM "forgot" about the 2wd Blazers!..its VIN # began with a "C" instead of a "K" though..I wish it was a 4x4,I'd still own it!..
