This red light came on when I left work today in my 72 C 10. I am new to 67 through 72's can someone tell me what this red light means in the speedometer thank you.

Brights are on

Is it cold there?

No brights aren't on, but the driver side headlight is out. I think the red light might mean that a light is out somewhere. Picked up a new headlight on my way home so I will change it out and see if that makes the light turned off.

Likely culprit.

Didnt like my other question?

Definitely is a hi beam indicator, may come on with a light out???

Huh...all my first generation trucks had a blue indicator for high beams...maybe someone put a red bulb in,or they used red plastic on the "lens" some years ?..

Must have been a factory change in there somewhere, my 72 had red

I recall my '71 GMC and '71 CST K5 having a blue indicator--now that I think about it,my '72 K5 might have had a red one...all my '73 up trucks have blue indicators for the high beams..

I never had any of them light up when a bulb went out though..

I had to get out and wiggle my right headlamp's wires the other night--it wouldn't come on,and a cop driving by yelled "hey, you got a light out!"..I rarely drive after dark,so my lights dont get used much..luckily the connector just needed to be pulled off and put back on again to get it working..a new square sealed beam for a 4 lamp system costs over 20 bucks now!....I remember buying them for $3.99 not that long ago...

Well, the red light is the high beam indicator. But for some reason it also comes on when a headlight goes out.
