A guy at work asked me to help him find out what ratio is in his truck. It is not setting where i can go spin the tire and count any time soon. so if there is a way you could tell me/him where to look.

1994 silverado 4x4 with a 10 bolt

vin# 2GCEK19K4R1274135

There is a sticker he said in the glove box with a bunch of codes also. I figure one of these is most likely to tell.

A link to desifer (sp) both the codes in the box and vin would be great but all he really wants is the ratio so he can pick up another axle. If someone near atlanta has one that is cheap would be great also.

Thanks Ronny

The sticker in the glove box will tell unless the gear ratio has ben changed.
The gear ratio is a 3 digit code starting with a G If it is a gov lock there will also be a G80 code. my K5 gr code is GT4= 3.73
Here is a site listing of most all GM RPO codes.http://www.c2e.info/rpocodes/

Also if you pull the diff cover the gear ratio is stamped on the outside edge of the ring gear

Thanks i sent him that and another page of rpo codes to look at. He said the rear is out of the truck so he will look for that stamp too.

Later ones might be 4 digits long, like 1G80 or whatever. But the G codes are indeed the ones you want.

Ring gear will not fail you though, especially if the truck wasn't owned by the guy asking whats in it, since axles/gears get changed.

You'd have to reseal it, thats why! lol

Seriously, best option is pull the cover. Need to check internal condition anyways. Can check axles for bearing wear as well, gov-lock, chunks, etc.

The rear is out and uncovered already. He said lots of gears are in a bag in the back of the truck. I believe he can change out the rear end but as far as telling is the gears are ring gear parts or spider gears is a little beyond him and i do not have time to drive accross the county to look. When i gave him 2 links to rpo codes he said another guy's dad works for gm and ran some numbers and told him 3.42 Just wants his truck back on the road. I think he has a line on a few rears just needed to make sure what gears.
