i just bought a 14 bolt rear end and 10 bolt front from an 80 chevy 3/4 ton. i pulled the cover off the back and found the numbers 2 gm 3977334 10 412 80 and on top of the axle tube is g0792. i've been searching on here and can't find those numbers. the guy told me 3.73 but was not sure. does anyone know what they are and a chart i could look at to tell me?

2 gm 3977334 10 41 2 80

I'm going to say they are 4.10's The 10 would be the tooth count on the pinion gear and the 41 would be the tooth count on the ring gear and the 2 would be Febuary and 80 would be 1980.

To positively verify this info take a count of the teeth on both the ring and pinion gears then divide the ring gear by the pinion gear and that is the ratio.

thanks for the help. right now i'm running a 10 bolt stock axle with detroit ez locker. is the 8 lug and the 6 lug axle i have the same? i would like to put my locker in the new axle. i know mine is 28 spline. is the 8 lug 30?can i just swap parts? thanks for the help.

If you mean the front axle it all depends on what year your axle is. The 10 bolt axle was 28 spline until around 1988 then GM changed them to 30 spline. Regardless you could just swap the locker and the axles into the 80 axle.

yes, sorry i meant the front axle. so the only difference between the two is one is 6 and one is 8 lug? how would the 8 lug be that much stronger?

It isnt any stronger. It is just the same axle with 8 lug outers.
