Im probably going to get blasted here:crazy: i was just wondering what rear gears were given to 1982 Blazers that were running a stock 305 back then? I think its time for a set of new gears,im running 33/12.5/15 hancooks, mtrs. Its a bit slugish of the lights, but its like a raped ape when i hit around 2500rpm:D.Engine is 468ci BB , 750 double pumper , 088 rectangle port heads,270 4x4 extreme energy comp cam, headmens and flow master 2 chambers. Its a street and sand truck. The front diff is a D44 and the rear is a GM12 bolt tranny is a Th350.

3.08 maybe? thats how mine drives with 33's and 3.08
could be a bunch of different ratios though. I would just pop the cover and look.

Your rear end could probably use some new fluid anyways

The sluggish off the lights is because of the heads you're running. Rectangal port heads are for high RPM's and as you've discovered don't "come alive" until around the 2500-2800 RPM range.

The only 100% positive way to know what gears you have is to pull the diff covers and count the teeth and do the math. This will also allow you to check the condition of the gears and then when done install new fluid.

I was running stock small ovals before the rectangles, had the same problem. What gears would you recomend 4X4 high ? Oh bye the way i new you would pick on my heads !:haha:

most probably you will have 3.08

before touching the engine
upgrade to 3.73 or 4.10 and you will see a huge difference in performance

when I swapped the axles in my K15 from stock 3.08 10-bolts to 3.73 14BFF/10B I felt like I have added 100 hp to my old & tired small block :D :P

yes
you can find re-manufactured Ring & Pinion sets in Al-Zahrani in Dammam for around SR 800

years ago you can find them cheaper in the junkyards but, now they are getting hard to find and cost the same as the re-manufactured ones

if it was me, I won't bother with re-gearing 1/2 axles becuase I broke the stock rear 10B couple of times with a stock 350, a stick, 33" tires and a heavy foot :D
I'd swap some 3/4 or 1 ton axles ( you will get stronger axles + the ratio you want )

with a mild BBC it is just a matter of time and you will break the rear differential :D
unless you drive like an old man :D

I have a Dana 44 on the front and a GM 12 bolt on the back, is this place close to you in Dammam ? If so could you pick me up a set of 4:10s for front and rear ? Next time you come to Bahrain i could meet with you and give you the money and a bit extra for your trouble.:wink1:
