i just bought a 94 burb, guessing that it has 4.10's. but i am having trouble with my web gear calculator. ive got 245/75/R16's and am doing 2150 rpm at 55 in OD. what have i got?

2500 means a 4L80E I believe.

Assuming the lockup torque converter is working correctly (and that you measured RPM in OD with the converter locked up);

2150 RPM divided by .75 (OD on a 4L60E) divided by x (rear axle ratio) times 30*pi (english equivalent of a 245/75/R16 tire times pi to find diameter of tire in inches) giving you inches per minute. Divide that by 12 (to give you ft./min.) and then by 5280 (to give you miles/min) and finally multiply by 60 to give mph, setting the entire equation equal to 55 mph.

Solving for x, gives you 4.65. My guess is your torque converter wasn't locked up or you weren't in OD.

You can play around with it in here http://www.f-body.org/gears/.

Most small blocks won't live past 5500 rpm long .
245/75/16 is 30.5 inches tall .
Try all different possible ratios to chart it .

Most K2500's had 3.73 or 4.10's , not set in stone , need to actually look , and its not a bad idea anyway since you just got it , and its probably overdue for an oil change :thumb:

definitely on the oil change. hopefully tomorrow will be nice outside so i can give it a good look. also, this thing is stock, any chance 4.56 was a stock option?

Maybe but doubtful that yours is 4.56.

Jack up the rear end, put the trans in neutral (with the e-brake off) and take the diff cover off (causing all of the fluid to drain). Turn the ring gear (its easier to turn the driveshaft) until you can read the numbers stamped on the side of it. There will be a bunch of numbers but towards the end there will be two 2 digit numbers (like 41 10). Those signify the number of ring and pinion teeth and dividing one into the other gives you the gear ratio.

that is the hard way to do it. i am just going to drive a tire revo, and have my buddy count the drive line revo's.

i looked in the glove box. it says i have 4.10 gov-lock (gt5). my tc must not be locking or something.
