Re: What gears for 38\'s?

Depends on what motor/tranny combo you have but in most cases 5.13's would be the best. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Re: What gears for 38\'s?

5.13's if you have an overdrive transmission... 4.88's or 4.56 if you don't. If it was me I'd use 5.13's either way /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Re: What gears for 38\'s?

I've got 4.10s and no complaints. 4.56 would probably be ideal for MPG with 4.88 or 5.13 being the choices for a rig that sees quite a bit of off road use.

I personally am going all the way to 5.13 if I ever change. Not worth it otherwise if you ask me.

Re: What gears for 38\'s?

I've got 4.88's with 38's and it's pretty good on the street, but pushing it if you drive very far on the freeway.

Re: What gears for 38\'s?

I put 4.56s in my buddies truck with 38s. He has a 350 and 4L60E. We should have gone lower. That being said.

4.88 /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: What gears for 38\'s?

i have 4.10's for my 38's. I am at around 2500rpms at 60mph. Well, that may be off some since I'm using my stock tach to gauge.

I went with 4.10's since my d60 already had them and I regeared the 14bolt by myself up to 4.10 /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif

Re: What gears for 38\'s?

38's, no overdrive..
For daily driving, 4.56
For a wheeling rig, 5.13

/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I don't want to hear you brag about how awsome that NV4500 is. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Re: What gears for 38\'s?

I'm running 38's with 5.13's and a 700r4, turning about 2600 in overdrive at 70. In my opinion its just about perfect for everyday driving in town, and on the highway.

Re: What gears for 38\'s?

I've been running 3.73's with my 38's for about a year now. It's great on the freeway but a little sluggish off of the line, but what more can you expect with a '90 Suburban. Out on the trail I almost always had to go directly to 4low. So I've bought 4.88's to and a doubler to handle things better. Give me another couple of weeks and I'll tell you how things worked out.

Not...gear calc says 2200 rpm at 70 in OD with 5.13's and a 700R-4 running 38's.

Fix your tach. /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

2200 is what ours runs at 70, of course it's a little hard to figure our where 70 is with the speedo off by a large amount. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: What gears for 38\'s?

My tach reading should be right on since its being read off the ecm in my edelbrock efi unit. The difference could come from me not having a lockup converter.

Re: What gears for 38\'s?

Would 5.13's work for a daily driver? I have a 350 right now, but I'll be investing in a fo-fitty-fo once I have the funds /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif Thanks

Re: What gears for 38\'s?

Should be 2350 rpm without the convertor locked...
