My father said i can have the rears out of his M1008. He wants rears that could do 70mph with stock tiers that would be great he said. So what gears do i need? as always thanks for the help guys

The rears would be going into a stock M1008. My dad wants stock tiers. He just wants to be able to do 70 down the parkway.

I think you want the tallest gears available for that axle.
You are talking M1008 so that would be the 5/4 ton with a 14bff rear so 3.42 is the tallest you will find and will easily do 70MPH on stock tires.
You could try and find the rare 3.30 gears but it's not worth it.
You can even get the 3.73 gears and get 70MPH and might get better driveability as in power.
With the 3.42 gears you can drive the truck empty but hauling with it will be sluggish.

3.73's with 31's it would still be spinning at 2900 rpm at 70 mph. I doubt your dad would be too happy with that. I'd get some 3.21's, that would get the R's down to about 2500 at 70.

I know u2slow found some 3.21's for his 14 bolt, they are pretty uncommon though. Might need to order some gears instead of hoping for some readily available factory offerings...

Just re-read the orginal post...why not chuck some 3.08 geared 10 bolts under it? Great for freeway and should live just fine on the street with stock tires.

Yeah, with 31's it'll be turning about 2350 rpm at 70 mph...as perfect as it gets without an overdrive tranny.

OK my father would like to keep it 8 lug. So i could use my tiers to help with the gears to. I have 33s 35s and 36s. thx
