What happens if my coolant isn't rated for -33 degrees Celcius?

I guess if the freeze plugs popped, it'll be easy to see after it's warm. Just look for a giant puddle on the floor. :)

But it looks the same when the block cracks...and often the freeze plugs don't pop out like they should.:doah:

He "might" get lucky and his antifreeze was strong enough to only let it gell or slush up some and not freeze or crack anything expensive..my Chevies always like to weep some coolant out of the thermostat housing or upper radiator hose when they sit idle outside in cold weather..good luck, say "NO" to crack!..

Ok so she's thawed out and no puddles on the floor... so it looks good. Maybe it just "weeped" a bit when it was outside. (*big sigh of relief)

To answer your question about the lacking block heater... this is not a blazer. Its a 3.0 litre diesel hilux

I have to pick up some better (toyota red) coolant on monday so it will stay in the garage for the next couple of days. I'm just glad that it's thawed and drained out for now.

who cares if its not a blazer. no vehicle on the prairies should be without a blockheater. and its a diesel.....especially not an older diesel. how long have you lived in Regina? get a $4 coolant tester from any parts store and make it right. 60/40 on the strongside for you.

glad to hear it looks ok though. thats a start. but wait until you put it through a heat cycle or 2 and see what happens. then you can breathe a sigh of relief. .

I've been here a while, but the hilux has only been here for a month... fresh off the boat from japan. I do plan on doing something to get heat to it, whether it will be by a block or circulating heater, I don't know yet.
