Just looking for a general idea of what breaks the most. What I'd like is for you to list your tire size, 10 bolt or D44, what you've broken, and how many times.

Made-up example:

35" tires
D44
Locking hub (1)
RH outer axleshaft (1)
Axleshaft U-joint (2)

etc.

Thanks!

D44/ Detroit
36's
1 u-joint/stub yokes/long shaft yokes all at once
went to D60 3 weeks later /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

3:73's Lock rite's
MM hubs

I've had it 4 years. I had 35's most of the time, and just broke the short side inner axle shaft (at the part that taper's). Both the seals needed replaced too, they were shot. I went ahead and replaced the ujoints too.

10 bolt
35" tires & lock right

Nothing yet. It will happen though. I carry wheel bearings, spindle, axleshafts, ujoints, locking hub, and yoke for it. I also have 4 sets of axleshaft for it just because I will probably need them someday.

I have seen D44's break
Longside & ujoint (1)
shortside & ujoint (1)

Dana 44 with Detroit Trutrac
4:56s with 35s
and now 4:10s with 38s

passenger side both ends after the u-joint broke.

I have seen lots of 10 bolts, D44s and other front diffs (AMC20s etc) break stuff, and 9 times out of 10, its the u-joint that lets go, then takes out the axle ears with it. If you are planning to upgrade, you have to do both axles and u-joints. In my opinion, Id leave the hubs so at least you have a relatively cheap easy replacement instead of gears or locker.
But thats just my thoughts.
Oh ya, and before anyone asks: I know I went the wrong way 4:56s with 35s to 4:10s with 38s. Reasoning was simple. I couldnt afford the 4:56s for the 14FF, so I swapped the front D44 to match the rear end until I could afford the gears... now I kinda really like the 4:10s, so the plan is to stick with them, and double the t-case or tranny. you know... before anyone asks... hehe.

D44 8lug
38" tsl
many axle joints, both sides, usually ending in axle yokes being broke
spider and ring gears (1)

added lock right and wheeled once since and broke 1 axle joint

Used to run a D44...

3.73 open
33" AT's
Big block /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Superwinch hubs- 2
Spider/side gears- 2 sets

Kinda wierd that the spider and side gers blew apart before the stub's or hubs at the time. Steering was at full lock to the left trying to climb a muddy hill with roots. Pretty decent amount of throttle. One little hop/bounce on the roots and they popped. Interesting noise too..BANG! popopopopopopopopop....lol, like a little machinegun. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

Rear axle hung on rock, open 14BFF, one tire in the air so no traction, both front tires on soft dirt, hald throttle turning the wheels back and forth for traction and kablammo
