Well this is what is taking most of my time now, other than trying to clean up some of the crap I have accumulated to make some $$$.:D

Been fixing a few things after letting sit for 3 months.
Changing air bags, checking the breaks, rotating my tires, changing the steering box, bumper and trying to fix a coolant leak that I fought with for a month before I parked it.

just curious Issaam, do those big rigs still run an Eaton/Fuller trans?

Yep, 10 speed Eaton fuller.
And to relate it to here, I need to get me a detroit locker for the axles, and no, I kid you not, they do have them and I want one in there.
Or I might go for an air locker instead, don't know who makes those.
:dunno:

We run the air lockers, (also not sure who makes em) but they are the cat's meow. I have a few regular spots where I need the air lockers to get into and out of certain calls...on dry pavement. :eek1:

On the flip side in the snow if you're on a bit of a sidehill (it doesn't take much) and the rears are locked the truck will slide sideways very easily. It's nice to be able to turn off the air lockers and re-gain lateral stability. Mostly in the snow I just run the interlock and keep the diff's "open".

Selectable FTW on a big truck...and I'm a Detroit Locker fan normally.

I agree on ice and snow locked is no good, that is why I am leaning towards selectable.

Specs iceman?
The truck?
2001 freightliner columbia, C12 CAT engine 425HP 1675 lbs tq, 10 speed eaton fuller, 3.55 rears, low profile 22.5" wheel/tire combo.
Does the job and gets decent mileage, on average 6.5MPG pulling 80k.
Empty I get 8.5mpg and bobtailing I get 10-13mpg.

one more vote for selectable. it's been several years since I've driven truck, but back in the day I've used both. selectable is the shizznit when you need it.
auto chains are pretty sweet too if you spend much time in the rockies.

If things work out for me, I will never drive in the snow again, this year I took off from new years until now, last year I chained up once.:thumb:

nice! I HATED chaining up.
I remember getting stuck on a steep incline once on I-80 at about 5am. no choice but to chain up. spent an hour getting it all done and in the meantime, the sun comes up. drove about 100 yards and had to pull the chains back off because everything was melting. I uttered some things that no one should ever have to hear. lol

Wow im impressed with the mileage! Do you ever feel underpowered or wish you had more than a 10?

Well underpowered no, you always have lower gear, at full load going up Donner on I80 I run 25MPH on the steep sections, would I like to go faster? yes, but it works out for me.
And for the more gears, I would like to get a 13 speed, but at the same time, the 10 speed is indestrcutible almost.:dunno:
When I get to the 75MPH areas it would be nice if I had one more gear, and some of the steep hills a gear split would sometimes get me a better speed, but the price I paid for it with a rebuilt engine was too good to pass and it has made me good money in the past 5 years with not much to worry about.:waytogo:

Exact same drive train I am running. Sweet spot seems to be at 65 mph. It needs another gear between 8 and 9 when I hit a grade. Just does not want to pull in 9 and 8 spins high rpm's.

now that's a truck. What length of trips do you make? Do you work for a company and get assigned work, or work for yourself?

Well I pull 80k so my spot is between 7 and 8 I would love to split that one.
I always pull on 8th till I feel it getting below the torque optimum spot and drop it to 7 and just ride it at 1500 RPM
