what inline 6 is this?

my uncle had a few chevy p/u from 41 to 54. was thinking it might be one of them

chevy had some weird bellhousing **** in the 50's. the block is the same but there is an adaptor between the cast iron powerglide, and the block. seen a few of these in boneyards.

Looks like a "stove-bolt" engine to me. Late 40's early 50's chevy pickup would have come with that. Is it frozen from sitting?

I guess Chevy 216. The 216 had that type of valve cover with the 2 center studs and nuts holding it on.
IIRC the 235s had newer style valve covers with bolts on the sides.

It is definately a 216. The early 235's had the valve cover like that as well but the dead giveaway is the side cover goes all the way up to the valve cover unlike a 235 which stops at the deck surface of the block.

Probably a 216,I think my 235 I had in a '56 Chevy truck had the valve cover bolts on the sides --it could be a GMC "Jimmy" 270 or 302 six too,I have only seen a few though and dont recall exactly what they look like...I think the motor I.D. codes will be stamped on a flat surface next to where the distributor goes on the block, you should be able to find out exactly what it is by the code..
