What is a rust-free all original 1973 Blazer (um, JIMMY!) worth?

I have found an all original 73 Blazer that has been sitting and garaged since ~1990 with about 100,000 miles on it. Allegedly rust-free except for a battery tray that disintegrated from acid. The story I have been told is that the owner had a death in the family, drove it here from Arizona then parked it in the garage and drove a different car home. Since the death a caretaker had looked after the property and he has only started it up a few times in the last two decades...

So, if this fairy tale actually turns out to be a clean all original Blazer with a good hard top, runs and drives, is rust-free with good paint, what is it worth?

Any pictures of said vehicle? It is very hard to say what any vehicle might be worth without seeing it.

No rust and disintegrated battery tray don't work together. I would check that fender and inner fender carefully to see how they have been affected by acid.

last thing to consider, 100,000 and clean all original blazer would be a lot to hope for

I don't have pics of my own, but I will take some this weekend when I go see it. He is asking $7,500... Obviously if he was asking $1,500 or something I would know it was a steal, but at $7,500 I'm thinking it is not.

...and the story is that this is an Arizona or Nevada car, therefore no rust.

Well, just in that pic I see a painted GMC grill and hubcaps that weren't used until much later in the decade.

i didn't think they used those hubcaps since 73, but wasn't sure....i have about 4 sets of those hubcaps off of various year models so i'm not sure when they started using them, i can't tell much from the grill

unless its in the bubble like bubble boy was dont count on rust free.

and out side might look super. but the crap ( i.e sh!t ) behind paint might be swiss cheese.

go look hands on and get dirty looking also.

x2 check every peice of metal

Thanks for posting it, I kept getting denied when I tried different ways of posting the pic.

So the consensus is that it does not look original? To me the paint looked way too nice but not perfect, like it had been repainted but a long time ago? The red doesn't look right- I will be reading up on queues to tell the different years apart to prep for my visit to it this Sunday :)

Keep the opinions coming! Thanks-

The first year for those hubcaps was '76. The grille is definitely a black painted '73-'74 GMC grille. Are the owners sure that it's a Blazer and not a Jimmy? That fender badge looks alot like a '73-'74 GMC fender badge (as far as I can tell from the bad pic). That would definitely be a window into seeing what these people think is original, if they can't even ID the make and model. :D

You could probably get for a steal if you show up with cash. If it's decent, make a lowball offer and go from there.

Just got this back from the seller when I started asking more questions...

"true it is a gmc but other than grille emblem there is no difference has original wheels and caps"

I'm not so interested any more...

send him a link to this thread, let him know you checked it out w/''experts:D, and show him where it states the 1st yr of those hubcaps was 76, see what he says then...we don't like con men!

Sounds to me like this is less conmen and more a seller who doesn't know wtf he is doing.

I see this a lot. Someone had a decent shape x but doesn't know a lot about it and because their cousin's nephew's boss's mailmans' mistresses' hairdressers' acquaintance supposedly sold one in worse shape for big money years ago they're asking too much or what it might have gone for a few years ago.

Doesn't hurt to look. Look it over and if it's sound, give them an offer that's realistic. Have cash. Some folks melt at the sight of cash figuring it's better to take the cash in hand then sit on the vehicle. Hell, it might not even run after sitting for so long! You probably don't want to even try and start it up. Point out the flaws and keep the good stuff to yourself.
Give them the impression that, "well, it has some issues and they worry you but you know, you can always slide it into the garage and work on it over time. So you'd gladly give them x amount but not their price."

Hell, give them your name and number and have them call you if it's still around in a while.

Worst case is either it's an overrated, over priced POS and you bail or they won't play ball and you move on. Some of the guys in the SW here have put up Craigslist links to cherry older K5's in their areas for stupid cheap. You could fly out, buy one, and drive back for less than $7500...MUCH LESS!
