I have been chasing a gnarly rattle in my truck for years. It was staring me in the face the whole time. My steering column is done. I pulled it this evening and started disassembling and found pretty much everything inside was hashed. Bearings broken and missing, body cracked and broken. Just a real mess.

I dont wanna pick up a junkyard one as I know I will end up spending too much money rebuilding it, so I have been looking at the jegs and summit private label brands.

I have already moved to a floor shifter and dash ignition so I really only need signals.

Thing is, mine measures at 37.5" and all the ones that say they are universal fit are seemingly too short.

This is what I am looking at right now:https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Stan...Steering-Column-33-Inch-Long-Plain,67291.html

I have swapped out to a borgesen intermediate shaft already, but not sure how much room I have to accommodate a shorter shaft.

I’m kind of wondering this myself because the column in my blazer as well is absolutely shot.

When I cage it, I was gonna do the universal one, and just make the spindle fixed to the cage much like a race truck. You will loose your blinkers that way, but pretty easy to put a switch on the dash.

so I think I have found one. The issue with compatibility seems to be the big issue as some of the later models incorporated washers, cruise, turn and a bunch of other stuff into one stalk. So when you are searching for vehicle compatibility they are tough to find. This IDIDIT column looks like it could serve my purpose.

I have moved my key to the dash and have a floor shift so that makes things a lot simpler.

I have gone through several junkyard columns at this point. Good ones are getting harder to find. I will be watching how this turns out for you.

After installing my cage and new seats I've been wanting a shorter column but it also needs to tilt (or have a removable wheel) so I can get IN/OUT of the truck easier. My current column is a tilt but it's sloppy as hell and nothing but the ignition works on it.

@K30Blazer a 4" shorter column can easily be extended with a spacer and/or a dished aftermarket steering wheel.

The tilt ones seem to break the most for me. Probably pulling on it jumping in and out of lifted trucks. The fixed seem a lot more durable.

yea, I just cant bring myself to spend $700 + on a rebuilt one especially when I know the inherent weaknesses in it. I just want something durable, well made and preferably made here in the US.

I always wanted a steering wheel disconnect (for security) that allowed me to keep the stock steering wheel but was afraid that if I found such a set up it would add 2"-3" that my fata$$ can't afford to give up. That shorter column might be the trick.

I ended up moving my turn signals to the dash on a on off on switch and I am going to use a trailer wire converter for the brake light turn signal issue because the oem switch has the wiring inside it to prevent the backfeed into the flasher when the brakes are on.. I also don’t have an ignition switch at all.. I’m gonna look at the link @K30Blazer posted. Thanks guys

If you all are doing dash signals and stuff, just need a wheel to turn. Go look at some circle track stuff. You could do one of those for like $100 if that.
