What is fouling my points out?

You need a complete HEI distributor--the best way to get it cheap is at the junkyard--like I posted before,if you yank one out of a junk car or truck, you'll get the distributor with the coil, cap, plug wires(new wires are better, but I've found some at the junkyard that were nearly new--many times people replace a lot of parts before they get pissed enough to junk something--I've seen cars and trucks with nearly new exhaust systems,carbs,starters,etc--then the vehicle gets into a wreck or the owner finds it needs a valve job or other major work, and all the fresh parts get scrapped!).
The only other thing you need is the red or pink wire to it(snip about three feet of it off the junkyard donor vehicle)so you can run it to a spot in the fuse block that is "hot" ONLY with the key in the "run" position--no resistor,no problems--the tach plugs in next to the pink wire on the cap--the cap is plainly marked "tach" where the wire goes.
The hardest part of doing this is the actual installation of the distributor--if you are sure too look at and mark the position of the rotor,it should drop right in without much trouble--just point the rotor on the HEI in the same position--dont turn the engine while the distributor is out to avoid having to spend time findind #1 TDC.Make sure it goes all the way down until it touches the intake. The firing order is the same as points, but the #1 plug wire is in a slightly different spot on the cap than the points distributor.I know this sounds hard if you havent done it before--but you learn fast, and its the ONLY way your going to learn,by doing it!--if you know anyone who can help who has done it before,it wouldnt hurt to have them show you how. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
