new guy here just bought a 86 K20 and have been working on it, picked it up for a 1000, think I got a steal. I have ordered the lift 6" tuff country, but like a dummy didnt notice the rear springs were sold as each so only got 1 of them!!

so I got to post 5 times before I can put up pics?

well about this thread, the burb had glass packs on it!! I ordered some flowmaster 44's and while I was welding those on I noticed this thing on the rear diff, I think it's a proporting valve but not sure, and need to figure it out before I lift it.

willpost pics in a few. I also have an 88 GMC Jimmy got pics of that too. Might be selling it though now that I got the K20. The Jimmy is in poor shape and the 4x4 dont work.....well it does nut the rear diff was switched at some point to a 12 bolt with 3.08 gears and the corp 10 bolt up front has 3.73's so yeah it dont work that way.

so any idea what that is??

That is a proportioning valve for the rear brakes. When there is no load on the rear springs, the valve is in one position. With a load, it's in another. When carring a load, the valve will allow more presure to the rear brakes. Helps to prevent rear wheel lockup without anything in the back of the truck. Sounds like a good concept, but in reality it doesn't work all that well.

so wouldnt be a problem to just disconnect that conecting rod and lift her up.

I would drill a hole in the arm and the mounting bracket, then run a bolt through to hold it in place.

just by pass it and toss it in the trash.

pull it. union it or rn it to the brake hose and blead the brakes and dont look back.

thats what I was kinda thinkin myself. Seems like too muchof a pain in the butt to rig it back up. Thanks for the help, now just got to get the front springs and shocks, and steering arm, and the other rear spring.
