What is the computer for in my 89 6.2 K5?

Stumbled across it today when tearing the dash apart.

Does the truck have a 700R4? That is about the only thing I could see using a computer, but it would not be much of a computer compared to the trucks with TBI or fully electronic tranny's like the 4L60E or 4L80E.

Or is it attached to the brake pedal assembly? That is part of the glow plug system, water in fuel light, etc.
