What is the longest time your truck has not been drivable?

Mine has been down just over a year now after I rolled it... but it went in the shop a standard 3/4 ton K5... it will come out in the next few weeks a TRUE 1 ton, D60/D70, stretched wheelbase, full convertible w/ cage, new motor, reverese hi steer, xover, hydro, etc....
Yes, I am a slow worker.

My '74 K20 was down for 6-9 months for a full rebuild, not including the bed (ran out of $). On the road for 3-4 months until the head bolts stretched on the Supercharged 396 and coolant wiped my bearings. Been sitting for 6 mo. while I got parts together for a 496, still with 'charger, now I just have to assemble the motor and put it back in. I'll probably have it done within a month. Can't wait to fire up my 600 hp BBC... but now that gas is so high I wish I would have just bought a Vortec 350 from the junkyard.

My race car ('93 AWD Eagle Talon Rally Car) has been down for about 1 yr. It's almost ready to drive again, but I need to fabricate intercooler piping, and buy a few more things. It'll be a few more months until it's rolling again, but it should put down over 400 hp this time. After it's rolling, I'll still need to fab a rollcage and install racing seats and belts before it can do any serious racing, just rally-x and auto-x until then.

about a month when i was doing the gear and ARB install. i couldnt imagine not driving it for over a year. i've had other projects that sat for years, mainly due to blown engines and lack of time/money. very depressing.

my first trail rig ''74 K-5 4in lift and 33's''tranny went out last x-mas i have a new tranny for it but too busy with my others a 76 K-5 6in 38boggers and 82 1/2 ton on 35s .gotta have more than one or two trail rigs.some times they brake to fast to fix them or you can pull yourself out.LOL!

Ive been down for 8 months. Just welded in some body mounts, then its to the clutch linkage, i think it'll be done this weekend but i dont believe it. After that, drive for like 2weeks, throw in the 350, edelbrock performer cam and intake, 40,000mile motor and putting some headers on. That should only take a weekend to do, then i need to gather parts and put the 6front springs on and make my shackle flip. So, new motor with intake and cam, fairly new Q-jet, put in an auxillary electric fan, new clutch, took out body lift and putting in all suspension lift. Most importantly, LOTS of de-jimmyrigging and fixing small things. It will all be worth it though in the end.

I bought my 75 about 4 years ago as a project. had no motor tranny t-case and i am still in process of building it but it is close. so close i can smell it. it actually starts and will move now but its far from ready to go wheelin.

Does not being street legal count? If so my blazer has been down since February because of no smog, which means no registration. It runs and drives fine, but is illegal on the road currently. I wouldn't be afraid of jumping in it right now and heading out for a long 100+ mile road trip right now. I drive it almost every day back and fourth between our 4 ranches this time of the year. THe CHP seem to stay away from our rural roads most of the time.

The longest time it was ever really down and not driveable was 4 days. Thats how long it took to swap my 406 mouse in. it took 3.5 days to put in the body lift and 3/4 axles. I had the tranny and t-case done by the local tranny shop. that took 24hrs.

Took me 4 hours to change from exhaust manifolds to headers...lets see....I'm running out of stuff.

Oh! It took two days for the stereo shop to build my system and get it installed. :rotfl:

my dd k5 has only been out for maybe a 2 days when i put a new powersteering pump in. mainly out this long cause i broke the puller i used and had to wait on parts for a few days. my trail truck has since october, actually longer it had no motor when i got it. ha

My first '78 K5 and my '75 were never out of commission per se. The '75 did get to the point where it was unsafe and extremely inconvenient to drive on the road but I still did it. Now my current '87 has only been on the road once since I bought it last October, and that was only for transport and what a nightmare that was. Truck ran fine but other things occurred...we won't mention those.

when i was into minitrucks, i tore into my 87 nissan kingcab in the fall of 95 right after i bought another truck.
had big plans of a frame off with hydraulics and crap.
i parted the truck out last year, so thats 9 years in-operatable.

i felt bad because my dad had bought the truck brand new in 1987 and given it to me for HS graduation in 1993.

My blazer will never again see a top or doors so it gets parked in the garage every winter. Last winter I put a D60 in the rear and a D44 with a spool in the front, cut the fenders and added flares, new springs in the rear, ripped out the AC and a lot of worthless electrical stuff, new bumper, finally got around to painting the cage I installed the year before.

Took it out for the first time about a month ago. Fragged the driver side axle shaft joint. Now I'm after the ball joints. Gotta get er done this weekend so I can hit the dunes Memorial weekend.
